Hotspur Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 I've just flown my first flight in the HS over the Kuban spring map. And my Oculus Rift arrives tomorrow. Could life be more perfect? 5

curiousGamblerr Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 It will only be perfect when Dortmund and Real knock the Spurs out of UCL group stage (assuming that's what your username is referring to...) I'm stuck at work for another 3 hours or so, so maybe I'm just bitter I can't try it yet lol 1
SYN_Haashashin Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 Sorry temujin, He wanted to open a topic to express he is happy with his first flight in the HS in Kuban. He also posted it on the right section, I see no reason to delete it at all. If you think otherwise you can allways send me with a PM. Haash P.S: It will only be perfect when Dortmund and Real knock the Spurs out of UCL group stage Lil off topic but...Dortmund will beat Real and Spurs Heva BvB!! 4

Field-Ops Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I did my first flights before I went to work today and was not disappointed in the slightest. Hands down best map and overall update to plane handling!

Hotspur Posted September 1, 2017 Author Posted September 1, 2017 Cripes! I wasn't expecting that! The Rift arrived a day late in not until the evening so I haven't had time to do more than set it up and have one flight. But it exceeded my expectations. I was expecting the 3D effect to be similar to what I had seen in the past - several levels (or planes) with objects on each plane. So I was surprised that the Rift presents a continuous and highly convincing depth of field. Every control and surface in the plane was in just the right position and incredibly realistic. After the flight I switched to the external view .I could easily imagine myself sitting outside a hangar looking at a plane across a field of grass swaying in the wind. The flying experience was totally immersive and I felt some fleeting lightheadedness when banking sharply. I left the settings on Ultra and had a rock steady FPS of 45 with no stutter (i7 5820 oc 4.2, 980Ti, 16GB DDR4). Everything was silky smooth even with a dozen or so aircraft in combat Downsides? Well only the lack of sharpness compared to a monitor but that was of course expected and the dials are still legible There's obviously quite a bit of tweaking and familiarisation still to do - eg my position in the cockpit is a few inches too far back than is realistic I don't think I'll be seeing much of my family this weekend! 1

You can move pilot position in none VR mode , save it and then run it in VR with new position applied.
Stratman59 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Just make sure you don't have work for a few days. When I first strapped on my Rift and started up BOS I ended up flying into the wee small hours and then all day again and again. You'll find you might need to reconfigure your joystick as there is no need to map view and zoom buttons anymore. Once that's done it's the best VR, the best game experience you will ever have, it's so easy to fly with VR as you have the real sense of being there, spotting airfields and landing is a breeze.
sergio_ Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Just ordered my Oculus. Anyway I can't enjoy it until I arrive from my holidays. So in the meantime, this thread came in handy for that place you need to tell the world "hey I got it! I got it!"
Herne Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 @Hotspur Glad you are enjoying it, After months of VR flight time over far too many hours, I still can't wait to get home from work and jump straight into IL2.@Amnesic Let us know how you find it when it arrives
Stratman59 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Congrats Amnesic, you'll spend a few hours faffing around with graphics and joystick settings but you'll be blown away I'm sure, I've said before on this forum that VR lifts this title from being a game to something totally awe inspiring. Now...back to my alternate reality.
