Releasing my RAAF and RNZAF P40 4K skins now. 

 

They are to go with ICDP 4K bump map

Have you included the "use the bloody step" text on the left wing's walkway?

 

And just a heads up, the area behind the rear windows should be the same green as the cockpit, not camouflaged.

Great Skins!

I am flying currently with my EMG Mod for Papua New Guinea a "semi historical" 75 Squadron Campaign (current date October 19th 1942 / Kokoda Track):

My Question: do you have maybe a blank or generic skin of the 75 Squadron P40 too?

I would like to use it for the planes settings file as the RAAF default skin.

Blank or generic skins are better for the additionally random generated planes or for not player controlled escort planes for bomber missions.

 Downloaded the RAAF skins, but I have no idea where to put them. Help an old aviator out?

Put them in P-40E1 File  .../data/graphics/skins/P40E1.

EDIT: Just fired the game up, both with Mods on and off and the skins don't show up. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Every other folder is empty. They are *.dds, but does it matter that they are Gimp.dds as Gimp has taken over those images.

What do you mean they are Gimp.dds?  Did you open them with GIMP?  When you open a .dds with GIMP it automatically converts it to .xcf format.  Check that they have .dds and not .xcf on the end of the file name.

 

What do you mean every other folder is empty?  Are you saying that the aircraft skins folders are empty?  If you haven't added any custom skins then the folders would be empty. 

 

Did you use JSGME to install them?  If you did you would have to set up the folder tree like P40E1 75SQD RAAF/data/graphics/skins/P40E1 and put that in the MODS folder and then install with JSGME.

 

To install manually just copy (or cut) the skin .dds files and paste them into data/graphics/skins/PE40E1 folder.

GIMP was just the program the file chose to open the program, but have since changed it to MS Office Picture Manager. Both are *.dds, though.

 

Worked out the other folders being empty myself.

 

 

Not using JGSME, and I know how that works, thanks. I installed them manually, started the game, selected the P-40E1 and there was no RAAF Squadron option.

 

They were not listed.

 

EDIT: Just checked and no skins I've installed are showing up in Quick Mission, even though they are *.dds and in the correct folders

If you downloaded from creator's  links or through HSD Downloader you should not have to do anything to the file. Just place in correct folder.

However IF you opened the downloaded .dds file with an app like GIMP or MSOPM now you have a a file that can be edited however you want. But to use any edited file you have to export it as a new .dds file.

I suspect that you may have opened downloaded .dds skin files with GIMP or MSOPM and then added resulting jpg / bmp image to folder.  Name of file may include dds.

For example "P-40 Whatever dds"  But the file extension " .dds" is the key element. File title should look like this " P-40 Whatever.dds"

No, I didn't open any file. Just downloaded using the user's link(s).

 

 

AND, I have found what I was doing wrong. While looking at the paint schemes available, I looked to the top, and it said “Official”. Ah-huh!

I clicked on that and was presented with the option of “Custom” and eureka, there they were.

 

What a rookie error, but something that hadn't occurred to me as I hadn't used user-made skins before.
