I'm pleased to present my latest cinematic contribution: Darkened Skies.

The footage captured here was taken mostly from the Blazing Steppe Scripted Campaign which I recorded during my playthrough of the campaign and then later went back and captured video from the tracks. I hope you enjoy!

Thanks guys! I'm feeling pretty good about this one... took me a while for it to really come together. It's challenging but in a really satisfying way!

This gets a great big Bravo with a standing ovation. The music and scenes were timed perfectly to move your emotions up and down. You varied your camera angles nicely. Doing the one slow mo was nice you did not over do it. This grab my attention starting out in the dark scene the lighting was perfect to set the stage. :salute:

O yes I forgot cant wait for your Kuban movie.

Awesome video!

You chose a great music for this kind of cinematic short-movie. Also liked the close-up camera. It was taking you into action directly.

Many thanks TwoLate! Appreciate the positive feedback on the things that really worked with this one. Probably going to be more than one Kuban set cinematic in my future... It's going to be a lot of fun to put together!

Wow! That was fantastic!!!! That must have taken you a long time to get all the camera angles?!? I wish I had the patients to do that myself. The music was perfect as well, really well done! Something to aspire to!

Thanks! :D

Sometimes you luck into getting the right angle. Frequently I'd play part of the track over and over again until I got the right take... Just like shooting a movie/TV show. It also helps if you spend part of your professional and personal life doing things like videography and photography. Getting the right angle for the situation is becoming more natural to me over time.

Well you certainly have a knack for it, innate or acquired!  I have found the same in filming - it can take me a whole evening of trial and error to get a few seconds of good footage - or none at all!  I expect you are more efficient as well as getting better looking results.

You are raising the bar. (B$*%&d)    ;)

Thanks! :) Honestly, I think I'm still doing just ok at it. I look at what people like Airdoc, HHPaulk and N8 were and are doing and I feel like I have a very long way to go.

Raising the bar or not... happy to collaborate and talk about setting up shots and strategies any time. Lots to learn all around!

You have your own style. There's always something to be gained from analysing the works of those you admire, but don't do yourself the discredit of calling your video "just ok".

I loved it, and for different reasons to anything by IIN8II or HHPaulk.

If you'd like to know: I like that you don't go overboard with the filters and slow-mo, you represent the awesome moments from a very realistic perspective and aren't afraid to let details slip in favour of keeping the moment of the scene. It makes the other creators look "contemplative" or "hollywood" whilst yours are adrenaline-packed realism. There's so much flashing by in yours that I want to replay it again and again - whereas the slowmo gives you a very good look at everything, watching once is enough. Playing things in real-time also makes the movement play a bigger role, something I really like about dogfighting.

For reference, take a look at the recent Dunkirk movie's dogfight scenes, they're very similar to your style (though yours end up looking much better - because they didn't throw around those historic warbirds or tear them apart with canon shells for the sake of the film.... no dedication!)

Well I appreciate that Peregine. I'm usually my own worst critic so its nice to know that my style is coming through and how it's seem by others. Really do appreciate that.

I did get a decent amount of inspiration from Dunkirk actually. I started this video after watching that so surely some of how they did that crept in here. Really glad that its an enjoyable video at the end of the day. I need to be ok with it but if folks enjoy it then mission accomplished!

I did an earlier video which may have some of the action you're looking for. I'm sure the IL-2 will make a return in my next video.
