Anyone using Voice Attack?

I had been meaning to grab it for a while, and now especially as I have VR I decided to go ahead and finally purchase it. I just got it installed, and had a quick look at the manual - that thing is like 173 pages.

Is that the best way to learn the software, just dig into and have a good read through the manual, experimenting maybe as I go?

Just curious as to others experience with learning the software.

Any tips greatly appreciated!

I remember using that or something like it in FSX years ago. Pretty neat. Forgot about it.

Several "tuto" in YT.

There is a free demo on Steam that allows you one profile with about 20 commands.

Definitely loading it up. It would be great for managing things during takeoff and landing.

I use a very basic set of commands, map on off, wingman commands. no flight control or systems as yet, enough switches on Warthog for that. Will definitely use it more with my Rift when it arrives.

Thanks much guys!

It is looking a little daunting at first, but hopefully I will get to grips with it enough for what I need. Mainly going to use it for basic wingman commands as well and some other odds and ends here and there.

I will definitely check out some of the tutorials.

CanadaOne - you can get the same free demo directly as well, unless you just prefer going through Steam. In fact that is what you download, and then can purchase a key that unlocks it.

You're right. Actually I did get the demo directly in the end. I might buy it. The only video games I have are BOX, IL2-46, and DCS. (Do you see a pattern?) But if it works for me in BOX, I'll probably get it, if for no other reason than managing jet landings. My HOTAS doesn't have enough buttons to handle the task comfortably. And I do enjoy making landings.

It is very hand with VR for things like gear up, flaps etc

Yes I could certainly see that. However I have most of those commands assigned to HOTAS buttons already. Main reason I will be using it for in BoS I guess will be for wingmen commands.

I have gone through and gotten them set up in Voice Attack, just need to go test in game now and see if they are working properly.

Well I tested in a quick mission, my commands did not seem to be having an affect on the wingmen.

Ok so in the controller setup menu in BoS, the wingmen commands are typically a ctrl or alt key held then a number key - like L-Alt+ 2, and so forth.

So the number keys, I set up in Voice Attack with the numpad. For these commands are they set for numpad or keypad numbers in BoS or does it matter?

Since Voice Attack send keypress for the game, run Voice Attack "As administrator", seems without this the game cant't see the external keypress (happens with Joy2key).

Ok that was apparently my problem, I had the numbers assigned from my numpad rather than the keypad, changed the commands to reflect keypad numbers and it is working properly  now.

Thanks, it was apparently I had assigned from the numpad that was causing the issue, all fixed now.

Just bought it. Not the easiest program to wrap your (my) brain around, but once set up it should be pretty cool. :)

Yes, immersion wise VA is best used for what would be voice communications in the game such as wingman/gunner commands. :salute:

Yeah I tried reading some of that large manual, then decided heck with it and just got in there and starting playing around with it and setting up my profile. It was not bad once I got into it.

I assigned my slew button on Warthog throttle as push and hold to listen, and stop listening upon release. Works pretty well for me.

I think big thing is going through the Windows voice recognition process, I did this a couple of times and it seems to be doing fairly well at recognizing my commands.

I got it working, and it makes landings buttery smooth, but it seems to have made my MS FFB2 a bit wonky, or maybe it's just a coincidence. And I definitely had several game crashes while getting everything in order. We'll see if it continues.

But, warts and all, it's pretty cool. I went from not having enough buttons on my HOTAS to wondering what I would do with them all. For $12, it's a nifty piece of software.

I bought VA to use when I used to play Elite Dangerous though not with VR.  I did not even realise there was a manual. It all seemed quite intuitive.    To be honest I stopped using it after a while as sometimes it would not recognise what I had said so I took to just pressing the button myself rather than risk it not working at a critical time. I realise that in VR doing it yourself is less of an option.   I carried on running it in the background anyway for a while because I had some useful macros set up (eg asking for landing permission  or retracting all weapons etc first when I asked  to jump) but I still just pressed the relevant key combo myself to invoke the macro.

I keep considering using it with BoX for giving orders to my gunner or firing flares ie the things it is not worth putting on the hotas but that tend to be fiddly to do when you do need them.

It really helps with Voice Attack to spend some time in the windows speech training, to get it used to one's voice. It recongnizes my commands for the most part very well.

I've had good luck with VA and games, with IL2 I have all the AI commands mapped, works well.

I would share mine but all it really is, is my main wingmen commands that I use it for, fairly simplistic but works very well for me.

I assign all my needed plane functions to my HOTAS setup.

I like the thing too! Remember that you can record new phrases in your native language in win speech recognition and use them in voice attack.

These are my settings which helped a lot to recognize correctly my phrases.

I've attached my elite Voice Attack profile as it has some simple use of setting and checking small integers and keybinds which you may find useful. It helps with the voice pack I use to give me different responses depending on the state of the integer/feature (eg deploying landing gear/raising landing gear, lights on/lights off)

When I start the game I issue a reset command that sets everything to 1 or 0 depending on the feature (eg gear up/down, lights on/off) then set and check the integer on each command to give me different responses.

EDIT: Here's screenshot to better explain what I'm doing.

In this case I am wanting to raise my landing gear but only if it is already down.

Command: Raise Gear
First I check if the LandingGear integer value is 1 (ie down)

If it is then I execute the landing gear keybind
Play the sound from the Voice Pack saying Raising gear
Set the LandingGear integer value to 0 (up)

Exit

I set keybinds so I can use them in multiple commands, just helps keep it all neat and tidy.

I also set up random acknowledgements so the voice pack doesn't always reply with the same wav.

Would you happen to have a Voice-Attack profile that you can share?

I have figured out how to create a profile for IL-2 Sturmovik 1946. It is a .dat file so if you are interested and want a copy of it, let me know.

Cheers! I can upload the file so that all you have to do is import it into VA directly. I know that I'm not known here but there is no virus or anything other that the profile.
