SCG_Darbzy Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 Hi all, I was watching a replay of a sortie I flew on multiplayer tonight and I accidentally hit 'alt+f4' and the game closed to desktop. I tried to reopen the game again through the desktop icon as usual and got the following error message- "F:/Program files (x86)/steam/steamapps/common/IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad/bin/game/console.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0000020." I looked up the error code and it recommended I install and run the 'PC scan and repair by reimage' program which I did, but the problem persists. I've never had any issues with playing the game before, but I must admit, I've never hit 'alt+f4' before either. The rest of my computer is working fine and I'm running Windows 10. Any suggestions? I'd rather not reinstall the game again if possible so I don't loose all my settings. Cheers, Darbzy
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 I would help but Gods know what you did to your PC by running that hokey freeware... That's gonna make the going a lot tougher.
SCG_Darbzy Posted August 24, 2017 Author Posted August 24, 2017 I researched the 'hokey freeware' before using it, and the scan was free but I paid for the software to fix my pc. See link: http://www.wehatemalware.com/does-reimage-pc-repair-work-is-it-safe/ Needless to say I'm feeling like a dickhead for doing so now but after researching the error message for a while I came across several suggestions reccomending to use this program. I'll be the first to admit I know f-all about computers. I'm now wondering if deleting my in-game recordings might do the trick as that is what I was viewing when I accidentally hit 'alt+f4' and the problem started. I'm thinking the problem is caused by exiting the game without closing it 'properly' by exiting my recording and simply exiting the game in the usual manner. Thoughts?
SCG_Darbzy Posted August 24, 2017 Author Posted August 24, 2017 Problem solved. I went into Steam and accessed the folder that contains my in-game recordings and deleted the one I was watching when I hit 'alt-f4'. I also used the 'verify integrity of game files' option which found a problem and replaced the file in question. I restarted my PC and all works fine now.
