J2_Trupobaw Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 you're best off on live.warthunder.com mate You'd think people with patience and serious enough approach to make quality WW2 skins rather than go airquaking are easier to find here, regardless of game skins are for .
Gambit21 Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 You'd think people with patience and serious enough approach to make quality WW2 skins rather than go airquaking are easier to find here, regardless of game skins are for . ...and those people such as myself cant' be bothered with War Thunder. There's the rub .
Jaws2002 Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 (edited) I play tanks in WT, but i didn't do any serious skins yet. however with the IAR-81C being in the final stages of devlopement that may change. Here's how the IAR-81C looks now: For WT it looks pretty damn good. You'd think people with patience and serious enough approach to make quality WW2 skins rather than go airquaking are easier to find here, regardless of game skins are for . Actually there are a ton of really talented skinners in WT as well. There are a lot more people playing and a lot more skinners as well......However, half of the skins are hentai crap: Edited August 25, 2017 by Jaws2002
BeastyBaiter Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 Hi, I know that talking about this game here is almost something like heressy but whatever Does anyone here make skins for planes in War Thunder? Seriously though, check the war thunder forums. And more than a few of us have been known to troll tanks over there in attack aircraft in sim mode. Not that anyone will ever admit it, I've certainly never done it.
Danziger Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 WT has never really been lacking in the eye candy department. It's everything else that turns me off to it. I will say I can't wait for the day when BoX finally upgrades whatever it is that makes the light reflections and metal textures on aircraft look so much more realistic in WT, DCS, CloD, FSW, etc... These pics are a prime example of how a plane can have some gloss and shine without the wet looking mirror reflections like we have. 1

Actually rise of flight had more advanced reflections and metal for skins than BOS, but still far away from WT lighting. Here's where you find skins in WT: http://live.warthunder.com/feed/camouflages/ Edited August 25, 2017 by Jaws2002
Ropalcz Posted August 25, 2017 Author Posted August 25, 2017 Here's where you find skins in WT: http://live.warthunder.com/feed/camouflages/ I know that. I only asked, if someone here does skins for more games, not only for IL-2. Well, I didn't know that it will cause same reactions like asking 6 year old LoL player about Dota.

The IAR pics looks great and it's a good example of convincing lighting and reflections.
Jaws2002 Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 (edited) Here's a better example of how light interacts with the skin materials in WT. You see how nice the metal and painted skin reacts with the lighting engine. To see the full image click on them. And this are saved as jpg straight from the game, with strong compression. In game they look even better. Edited August 25, 2017 by Jaws2002
Danziger Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 When we get to later war planes that had a lot of unpainted metal this is going to be a big problem. Even now there is a skin for the Macchi that attempts to look like bare metal but isn't very realistic looking. I'm sure it's something they know about and will probably be worked out when they get time for it.
Jaws2002 Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 war thunder runs on linux ...and on play station and xbox.....

Feathered_IV Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 What is that thing? The pilot size looks way off.

In game they look even better. The IAR pics are actually better examples, and what we're seeing here is the 'global illumination' in this engine vs BoS (light photons bouncing around objects) and perhaps differences in how normal and alpha maps are handled as well. With the IAR pic you can clearly see not only the metal texture, but the reflection of the wing in the fuselage...this is not as apparent with the other aircraft you posted. Edited August 26, 2017 by Gambit21 1
Gambit21 Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 ...or the game engine approximation of Global Illumination. I'm familiar with this from working in 3D programs, but less familiar with how game engines handle this. I know if I turn it up too high in Cinema 4D, my render times go through the roof just for a still image, So obviously things are highly optimized, and handled a bit differently in a game engine where everything is moving around in real time.
Danziger Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 Graphics don't make a game good. They do make a game look good. Otherwise we would all be flying 1946 instead of bothering with anything new. I hate WT as much as anyone but there is no arguing the way the light and reflections work on aircraft in their game looks more lifelike. 1

I like good graphics, the game just suffers from its f2p model as it forces money out of players. Waste your life trying to unlock your engine part for 3 days or pay money. Meanwhile you have a worse plane against people fully unlocked. Edited August 28, 2017 by deleted@30725
Danziger Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 Yeah I initially thought WT was going to be the new 1946 when I first got back into flight sims a few years ago. Then I downloaded and played it and was horrified. But they have the cash flow to pay an army of workers to keep developing and upgrading it. I wish our team could get that kind of funding.
Trooper117 Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 I don't hate WT... it's only a game. I have never understood the 'my game is better than your game mentality', that just smacks of an elitist attitude that should be beneath mature adults, plus it would surely put off users of WT who browse this forum, who are looking to broaden their love of flying games, and are looking to migrate to a game that can give them a better and more complex experience of simulating air combat. Bear in mind also, there are quite a few people here already who have taken that step... I also have to say, every now and then, I go and have a bash at WT ground forces and the aviation side when I just want some easy instant action that doesn't tax the brain cells to much, and it can be fun. I'll also add, WT does have it's share of tit heads and twats that can be a pain in the backside, same as any gaming site, and that includes this one, we have all seen them about... so really, as games go, apart from the requirement of a little more applied learning, there is not a great deal of difference. 5
Danziger Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 WT isn't beneath me I just don't like the way the game play and controls are set up. I would rather buy the whole game like DCS or BoX. To buy WT using gold eagles would cost like a grand.
Royal_Flight Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 The best fun is in the early stages anyway. I'm not a fan of the mouse-aim control system but it suits dogfights and turning much more than the late game which is all climbing and boom 'n' zoom. Using the mouse to pull a biplane or other early fighter around is much more akin to a fast-paced FPS, when it comes to actually wanting to 'fly' I'd take a HOTAS every time. I had a lot of fun with WT in the past, it's good for instant visceral action. But I haven't been back to it since getting BoS and doubt I will return. Likewise I can't imagine playing BoS with mouse-aim.

Mouse aim mode is a bit wonky as you cant do proper maneuvers, but I have setup my mouse in the past to act as a joystick in bos to do proper loops and aileron rolls. Bos also has aim assist like war thunder. Had the war thunder team taken a different path bos and war thunder could be brothers rather than cousins.
