ZG 26 - bf 110 operations at BoM

I am nearly done with my Ju-87 campaign "Sirens of Death" which is roughly based on StG 2 and various historic action. Now it is time to make a more "action packed" campaign for the average player to enjoy: ZG 26 operating out of Dugino during the battle of Moscow. So the research begins. I am finding it more difficult to find simple information on the bf-110 SOP as opposed to the Ju-87. Anyways, as usual, Luftwaffe stuff isn't my forte when it comes to WW2 history (slowly gaining more knowledge) so I am here to consult you guys! Here are some basic things I need to know.

1. How often were alternate bomb-loads like 2xSC500's instead of 2xSC250's, or 1xSC1000 used?

2. What was a typical altitude to cruise or attack from? (In game 800-1000m feels best to me, then I RTB at around 500m or lower)

3. How many 110's would typically fly together on a sortie?

4. What type of formation was used? A large V? or multiple V's like the Stuka "Kette" tactic? Or maybe just an echelon?

5. Despite the variety of ground attack missions they took part in, did they occasionally engage enemy aircraft at all? If so, was this in self-defense only? Or were there deliberate intercept missions against enemy bomber/attack aircraft?

6. How often would they have had air cover by friendly fighters? (I'm looking at you JG 52!)

Thanks for any answers, links, or reading recommendations!

1. I and II./ZG26 used mainly 2xSC250, or a bit rarely, 2x250+4x50. Havent seen any SC500 during BoM. SC1000 were used by Bf110F-2's during battle of Stalingrad only.

2. Depends on mission.

3. Depends on mission. But usually 4 or 8. Rarely, in massive attacks, there were several Staffeln for one target (airfield, for example).

4. 4-finger.

5.  Yes, they flew ground attack mission, bomber intercept missions, free hunts, patrools over german retreating columns, armed recoons.

6. Usually, during winter 1941/42, all brave Bf109 fighter sat down frozen. Many Soviet reports say, that during most days in december, no other german aircrafts were seen, other then Bf110, who flew all kinds of missions.

7. Usually, Bf110 flew without any escort, atleast during 1941-42.
