Enhanced Colors in CV1 (might be working for Vive too)

I discovered about a year ago that it is possible to apply some of the NVIDIA color settings on the CV1 so sharing this here.

The reason is that it seems some of the driver settings are applied on the port of a device not the device itself.

Steps:

1. Unplug the Rift from the GPU and connect a monitor or TV to that port you are using for the rift.
2. NVCP >> Resolution settings >> Select the monitor or TV you just connected >> set Output dynamic range to Full. Apply (This may not be available for all screens but I think the rift is using full range by default)
3. NVCP >> Adjust dektop color settings >> Select the monitor or TV >> Use NVIDIA settings >> here I prefer Gamma=0.80; and Digital Vibrance=72%. Apply. (Probably only the digital vibrance is applied to the port but actually that is the setting that gives enhanced colors)
4. Restart PC and make sure your settings are still applied (just in case).
5. Shut down PC >> Disconnected the monitor or TV and connected the rift to the same port.
6. Check if you see a difference

First you may want to check the difference in Oculus home as that is much more colorful than BOX.

I don't see a reason why this wouldn't work on the Vive or an AMD GPU in case AMD's have an equivalent for the digital vibrance setting.

The effect is permamnent, you only need to re-do these steps when updating the GPU drivers.

I thought i'd try and cranked up digital vibrance all the way to 100. I felt like the sim just came to life. Also the colours help in spotting and id-ing since strong colours also mean much stronger colour contrast.

I will apply your method. The one I linked to cuts the fps significantly. Thanks for the idea:)

You may find max digital vibrance too much at first. Especially in the menus. Those green buttons become very green! However in the plane you don't see those extremes.

Anyway you can dial it to your liking when you have 10-20 minues free time. This is not the simplest setting to change as you need to change the physical cables too, but not that compliacted once you know what you are doing.

I may try this. Thanks.

The latest driver this is possible on is 385.69.

Then it seems NVIDIA interpreted this as a bug and "fixed" it.

EDIT: I believe this also means that this was never possible on AMD cards.

Black_Sab, I just tried it. It still works.

I know there are countless of people on the internet repeating each other that it wouldn't work anymore, but it does. A wall of Fake News.

P.S. I am on 388.31

Strange. I tried it on 388.31 last week. Changed cables, set the NVIDIA options on 2d screen, switched cables back, and the settings were still app!ied to the 2d screen which should not be the case. I tried the rift and there were the washed out colors.

Then I started to check each drivers and found that 385.69 was the latest allowing this.

How did you manage to set up 388.31?

It disappeared, you were right. To change colour now, a shader must be used (3dmigoto), easily cutting off a lot of FPS.

It does allow to disable the propeller disk however, so you can run ASW 24/7 at 45fps without the glimmering frontal cone and glimmering crosshair. Makes movements buttersmooth. Disadvantage is a more noisy picture.
