DeadStaar Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 (edited) I purchased BoS on Steam, but I want to play the preview of BoK, so I have to also download the IL2 BoS launcher, and install the entire game again? Just so the launcher can download BoK? Because I'm not showing BoK downloadable through my steam iteration of BoS...which is pretty B.S. I already have CoD and BoS on Steam, why do I want an outside install of BoS as well? Can't they just make a universal IL-2 launcher that downloads what the hell you want it to download? I thought BoK was marketed as a standalone that could be played outside of, or integrated with BoS. Seems like you have to have the BoS launcher and therefore BoS game to play it. You know? It's alright...I fault myself. This game is obviously big enough a franchise that it can have it's own launcher and survive without Steam. I should have downloaded everything from the site in the first place anyway. There goes me thinking Steam is the gaming world, again. Edited August 21, 2017 by DeadStaar
Finkeren Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 While any of the titles (BoS, BoK, BoM) are "standalone" in the sense that they can be owned and played on their own, they are not separate games, they are different aspects of one whole. If you own one of the titles and have it installed, in reality you have the entire thing installed: BoS, BoM and what has as of yet been released of BoK - it's all there no further installation required. To access BoK content (which at the moment is limited to 6 planes and soon a map) all you have to do is purchase BoK, get your product code in your profile here at the site (which is not the same as your forum profile - this confuses some people) and activate that code. Voilá, the next time you boot up the game, you'll have access to all the BoK content we have. 4
Cybermat47 Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 Really, there isn't a BoS launcher, just an IL-2 launcher.
SAG Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 activate your Key on this site, and youll get access to Kuban early access from steam
BazzaLB Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 activate your Key on this site, and youll get access to Kuban early access from steam Thats a bit misleading though because you only get access to the released planes, not the W.I.P Kuban map.
19//Moach Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 (edited) Thats a bit misleading though because you only get access to the released planes, not the W.I.P Kuban map. yeah, that is supposedly coming up in a few weeks - so for now, sit back, watch Game of Thrones or something and relax... kuban will be here soon enough for now, we have the spitfire - which is quite a treat Edited August 21, 2017 by 19//Moach
Luftschiff Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 You will get access to the Kuban map, and all the planes, as they are released. Your Steam copy of BoS will suffice as long as you activate the key on the official site. No need to redownload, reinstall, use separate launchers or be sarcastic.
Yogiflight Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 You don't even have to activate the key anymore, it gets activated automatically. So open your game, go to QMB and look which aircrafts you can fly. Additionally to your BOS aircrafts, there should also be the BOK aircrafts Bf109 G4, Bf110 G2, He111 H16, FW190 A5, IL2 1943, and the Spitfire MK Vb flyable for you. Kuban map is announced for end of this month, and the remaining aircrafts and new carreer system until end of this year.
Cybermat47 Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 Thats a bit misleading though because you only get access to the released planes, not the W.I.P Kuban map. You do not get access to a product not ready for release, that is correct. I miss playing Ubisoft games too 2

I started up the Steam version of the game, didn't see any Battle of Kuban content; missions, campaign, maps etc. and deleted it, then re-downloaded BoS here. Haven't checked that install yet, though. So, where will the BoK preview content show up? MIxed in the already available BoS mission/ content? Or only available in multiplayer? I was hoping to be able to preview the campaign. Edited August 21, 2017 by DeadStaar
SYN_Mike77 Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 (edited) The new campaign is not yet released. What you should see is 6 new planes. The map is scheduled for release later. As new content is released (map other new planes etc) you will get the content automatically. Edited August 21, 2017 by SYN_Mike77
TP_Silk Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 DeadStaar - as has already been explained, there is no preview version of any content in this game other than access granted by 1C/777 as content is developed and released. It may help if you think of Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Moscow and Battle of Kuban as different aircraft sets rather than different games. They all have access to the same maps now. Content still under development includes the new campaign structure, the Kuban map and several aircraft. The map and campaign structure will become available to all game owners once released and the remaining aircraft will become available to owner of a Battle of Kuban licence once they are ready.

I fired up the Steam iteration of the game and I could see that it at least acknowledge Battle of Kuban in the upper right, but wasn't seeing any campaigns, missions etc. Thanks much for that.

Roger that...understood. So, in other words..."not a preview" but "pre-order content." Historically, I've known preview to mean "basically the full game running on unfinished code. The Preview may/ may not represent the final product, and may never be finished..." etc. etc. Thanks everyone. What it boiled down to was my interpretation of what a "Preview" historically has meant, to me, in other facets of gaming, my inability to read, lead me to looking for content that simply didn't exist. ShamrockOneFive Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 IL-2's release structure works a little differently than a lot of titles. A lot of that is because aircraft development and map development is complicated so it takes the whole year for their small team to crank out the content. Since December we've had a release approximately once a month or once every six weeks where something new lands in the game. Bf109G-4 through to Spitfire Mark Vb so far. More to come including the incredible looking Kuban map - that'll really start to bring things together!
Finkeren Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 "Early access" in BoX terminology means: "You get content as it's getting ready" rather than buying the finished and assembled product. Everything that's released is completely done and no more subject to change than any other part of the game.
Yakdriver Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 So am I going nuts or is downloading Kuban really this retar***? Nah, it´s you, Bruh. You going Nutz. Deez. 1

Rjel Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 I think sometimes we forget how much information we've digested on this forum in the nearly 5 years a lot of us have been here. What we might take for granted as SOP can be a confusing jumble of information to a newcomer. Getting bits and pieces of the next installment of the sim through early access makes sense to long term members because we have been through it here several times now. I like the way Early Access works in BoX. It sure beats sitting impatiently waiting for a new game as I've done in the past.
