Opinions on whether an I5 2500k @ 4.1, 16 gigs of ram and a GeForce GTX 1060 6GB can run VR?

Do you think it could run it decently ....or barely.

Yes it will run it. Run the Oculus Compatibility checker first to see if it flags anything, like USB 3 ports that might be problematic.

You may struggle reaching the ideal 90 fps much if at all, but should still have a pretty smooth experience down to 45 fps, and may have to run lower on graphics settings.

You will get 45 fps in both cases, but it should be ok.

All depends on what you will consider decent or barely.

In the first posts of this thread ( https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/29322-measuring-rig-performance-common-baseline/)there were some people from the Russian forum who where running also an i5-2500K@4.4 and they were strugling at getting 90fps at high settings.

As Don said, with LOW graphics setting you will improve a lot your fps, and maybe in very complex scenarios with clouds, smoke, several planes, you may go below 45fps.

I think the 1060 would be quite OK for IL-2 VR, but the i5-2500K is the weakest item here.

I think you can go for VR with your rig, and in case you want better performance you can upgrade your CPU with the same socket (to i7-3770K) and OC. In the above thread, someone were reporting good OC ratios with just air cooling.

Yeah that is pretty much the bare minimum

You will benefit from a cpu @4.4 ghz

If you can squeeze the purse for a 1070 or even an old stock 980ti if it's cheaper that will also get good results
