unreasonable Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Thread title says it all - I want to make another skin for the same unit for film purposes. Does anyone have an idea what font might look the same or similar for the fuselage number? And serial come to that.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 A pic, if anyone else knows the answer: Not sure myself, it's unusual, but worst case scenario you could get the numbers straight from the photo, paint them over or make a vector, then change the order to get different numbers. RAF type I for the serial number: http://www.bobsyouruncle.net/font-types.htm 1
unreasonable Posted August 20, 2017 Author Posted August 20, 2017 Thanks for the RAF serials! Unfortunately I need a specific number that is not a mix of 538. I can probably bodge something up but if someone knows the actual font it will save me a few hours, given my skill level...
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 This font is kiiiind of similar, you'll need to fill in the stencil gaps but it looks passable: https://fonts2u.com/ussr-army.font?ptext=538&submit=Submit
unreasonable Posted August 20, 2017 Author Posted August 20, 2017 I think this one may work. Has no stencil gaps, and although it does not have such distinctively asymmetrical 3s and 5s it could do the job. I also have another possible solution - so thanks for help again. Script is pretty much written, music chosen, props selected, now for the hard part of actually getting out on location! (Always takes me weeks to make these things...)
Raptorattacker Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 I guess bear in mind that a lot of this stuff was painted on 'in the field' and so uniformity wasn't necessarily at a premium. I believe that is also called 'artistic licence'?!!
unreasonable Posted August 22, 2017 Author Posted August 22, 2017 Oh trust me, I will take a great deal of "artistic licence" 1
A-E-Hartmann Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 (edited) Here is what corresponds. Edited August 22, 2017 by A-E-Hartmann 2
Obelix Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/english/articles/spit/ My personnal interpretation, for my Squad CCG 6
unreasonable Posted August 23, 2017 Author Posted August 23, 2017 @ A-E-Hartmann right but that is just the numbering for 538 itself - what I need is the ability to change the numbers (which I now have ) @ Obelix nice skin: although I notice that the squadron number is in a different font to the photo of 538. Not that that really matters, really, I am just being pedantic.
A-E-Hartmann Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 (edited) @ A-E-Hartmann right but that is just the numbering for 538 itself - what I need is the ability to change the numbers (which I now have ) Apparently it is composed of several fonts. The fonts are: -"Fontatica 4F Regular". I think the 5 is modified and corresponds to another font. This font correspond: "Grafizc OT Bold". http://fontsgeek.com/fonts/Graficz-Bold Edited August 24, 2017 by A-E-Hartmann 3
unreasonable Posted August 24, 2017 Author Posted August 24, 2017 Outstanding detective work, those 3s and 5s look just like the photo. I suppose it was really "57th Guard Aviation Regiment" font, really. Nice fonts site btw. I have everything I need on this now, thank you everyone.
