doog442 Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 (edited) A few weeks back admin told us the BOS campaign was crap and was to be replaced. (their words I believe)...I was a bit shocked as was enjoying it. I've been away but having plugged everything back in do i waste my time continuing up a cul de sac or wait for the new campaign? Gambit21 Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 How can anyone else answer that? If you're enjoying it then by all means play it until the new one arrives. 1
216th_Jordan Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Well if you like the actual one I'm sure you'll love the New one
doog442 Posted August 18, 2017 Author Posted August 18, 2017 So all of my hard work will come to an end ..when exactly ? As stated..I've been away but am several months in.
LLv24_Zami Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 You have time to play many missions in the current campaign before the replacement arrives. Go ahead and play it
Gambit21 Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Yep - just play for enjoyment's sake and forget about your 'accomplishments' as it were within the current system.
doog442 Posted August 18, 2017 Author Posted August 18, 2017 (edited) Cheers, been around the game since 2001..just found it odd admin would say the campaign was crap ....although I admire their honesty perhaps it was a little ill advised. Any ETA ? Edited August 18, 2017 by doog442

Any ETA ? The current campaign system is not a product of Jason's work or his preferences/wishes/wisdom on the matter. It was the brainchild of Loft, who has since moved on. Thus Jason's candor regarding the current campaign system.
Yogiflight Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Wasn't a beta version announced for october?
LLv24_Zami Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 (edited) Wasn't a beta version announced for october? You are probably right. I'm typing with my phone from work and did not find the timetable. Edited August 18, 2017 by Zami
Feathered_IV Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 I think Jason said "people" thought it was crap. I suspect the new one is a couple of months away at least. If in the meantime you wanted to get an idea of what it will be like, you couldn't go far wrong downloading the Free version of Rise of Flight to get an idea of how the new campaign system will work. It's got everything the full game does, with free access to the Albatros and Spad for you to fly in.
Herne Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 I played through them both, I think I enjoy the scripted campaigns more, Ten days of Autumn, and Blazing Steppes. I like the back story, and there seems to be a lot more going on as you fly around, ground battles etc.Since the VR patch came to IL2 though, I am addicted to Multi Player. Guess there are worse things to be addicted to, but here you can plan your own missions, and the best you can hope for is a safe return

How about I tell you everything thus far in the video game has been a waste of time. A complete and utter waste of your life. Stop, quit for you are just moving light around a screen. Reality is not within such a things. A video game is an entertainment source. You use the application as you like interacting with it. It brings some sense of joy or fun to a part of your day. A question that has no answer for your own judgement is what decides whether you enjoy playing the video game and if you do not then do not use it. A job this is not. Everything is swept away when you ride the white horse out of this world so don't worry about what will be, enjoy the now and if you like the current campaign enjoy it till it changes.

Any ETA ? The new Career open beta was originally scheduled for October. Who knows if it'll be released then or not as we haven't heard an update since the Q&A session when they revealed this information. That said... things have been pretty close to the timetable which suggests to me some seriously good project management work. The timeline: https://stormbirds.wordpress.com/2016/12/07/battle-of-kuban-what-content-is-coming-and-when/ The current campaign system in place was originally developed for IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad. It was designed when the goal was to try and lighten things up a bit and introduce some gamey features from other genres. The experiment was a good idea but ultimately not well received. The campaign system is really meant to let you jump in and play whatever you want whenever and you get to choose between short and long missions. I suspect it was also designed out of a desire to ship IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad in under 24 months which I think was the original dev cycle - remarkably fast for a team building a new product. You have to cut corners somewhere. 1

What the hell are you dripping on about How about (as you state) I waste the next few months of my life chasing light around a screen with an objective that I may never meet because Its suddenly disappears one day..the objective that is? Sure I may have fun but the point of a campaign is that there's usually an end point, the thing that gives you a bit of satisfaction when you finish it.... I was simply asking when this may occur. I didn't need whimsical wacko prose from someone who's advice was as useful as a chocolate teapot.
Herne Posted August 21, 2017 Posted August 21, 2017 is the existing campaign system set to change or are they simply adding a new career mode ? If you are enjoying the campaign as it stands, then just keep on enjoying it.

If you are enjoying the campaign as it stands, then just keep on enjoying it. AFAIK they are adding a whole new career system, similar to what was with ROF. No idea if they will leave the current stock campaign intact or take it out. I somewhat enjoyed playing both parts of the BoS campaign, but it got kind of repetitive. Likely will not do the stock BoM campaign, as I have moved on to scripted campaigns. Thoroughly enjoyed Blazing Steppe and am currently flying Ivan's War and enjoying it very much. When I get through with it I will likely start a PWCG career. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/24312-pwcg-unified-212-available/ I used PWCG some back when I was flying ROF some time ago and it was really nice. But I am also very much looking forward to the new upcoming Career. Between it and PWCG which will have BoK support added as well after it is released, there will be lots of nice SP content available to us. Edited August 21, 2017 by dburne

If you are enjoying the campaign as it stands, then just keep on enjoying it. It's a full replacement as it has been described. I believe in the Q&A Jason even said that the underlying codebase is such that it can either be one or the other... they can't do both at the same time. So the old system will be replaced by the new system. It serviced us until now and I had a lot of fun with it but I think we'll be getting the superior experience after its fully implemented.

They are all of a very high standard and hugely enjoyable https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/forum/111-scripted-campaigns/
Fabioccio Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 The most hated thing of actual campaign is that you can't replay the same mission if you fail. It get random generated every time you play it, so you can't trying experiment different approach to same mission, and this is veru bad (crap) for me. The other stupid, but not worse, thing is that enemy planes are Always loitering at the target at the same altitude, a bit above you, when you approach mission target, and this sound repetitive. I remember encountering some random flight when going back to base, and it added more immersion and fun, trying to evade them. S!
