Soviet Unit Markings

As we move into 1943, many Soviet units - particularly Guards regiments and divisions - started sporting distinct identification details on their aircraft. For anyone who didn't known it, this page has examples of some of these tactical markings for many units which used aircraft present in game, together with images in some cases.

Thanks for the link, I've not seen it before!

 

My favorites are Savitsky's 3IAK. They were a great group, but for some reason were never made guards units. (any insight?)  Savitsky's call sign was Drakon throughout the war. I think he was a three star general by the end and still flying combat!!!

 

The 3rd IAK was very active in the Kuban.

Kostylev, I don't know the exact story why (as far as I know) all 3 IAK regiments and the corps themselves didn't receive the honour, but there were more than a few instances of excellent units not receiving the Guards title (402 IAP being the most outstanding example with over 800 victories).
