Gentlemen, Greetings!

Lets talk about one skin, that we have in the game.

Hauptmann Hans "Assi" Hahn

Bf 109 F-2 W.Nr. 5749, Stab III./JG 2, St.Pol, France, July 1941.

Details of cockerel:

1. Red nose skin.

post-1464-0-14814800-1502994684_thumb.jpg

This skin is based on this profile:

post-1464-0-16414600-1502994958_thumb.jpg

Published in Flugzeug Profile 28: Messerschmitt Bf 109 F (Published in 1994). Profile is painted by M.Meyer. If You will look into other profiles in that magazine, You will also find many mistakes (II./JG27 aircraft with III Gruppe vertical bar, and others).

But M.Meyer based his profile on even older one, came from 1970's. Here it is:

post-1464-0-22997400-1502994960_thumb.jpg

But if we will look closer, we will see that red element of cockerel differs very much with engine cowling color wich is much lighter and cannot be other than RLM 04 yellow.

Also, Kagero is their book directly stated, that wrong profile was discussed with Hans Hahn (before his death of canser in 1982):

2. RLM04 Yellow nose skin. (dont look on rudder - victory bars will be reworked).

This proposed variant is based on analysis of a photo, and on the book of Jerry Crandall about Hans Hahn.

In this book, color profile is based on photo of Bf 109 F-2 W.Nr. 5749.

I think they should change it. The game looks much better when the skins match the reality of it, this skin has always bothered me.

While we´re on this topic, is the Spitfire 538 from 57 GIAP correct? It seems unusual to paint a yellow arrow on a Soviet aircraft when all other similar arrows have been pained in white or cream colour. Beyond that, is there any verification that the arrow was there at all? If you take a closer look at the photo, while it appears that an arrow is present over the wing, you can also see a blur from the photo heading upwards from it in the exact same colour. Along the fuselage the clear arrow is extremely uneven and eventually disappears though a faint outline of something close to the tail but nothing that resembles a clear arrow. Put your thumb over the clear bit over the wing and you´d never say this marking is on the aircraft. You can find a decent photo here: http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/english/articles/spit/Spitfire_028_EP210.jpg Panzerbar, what´s your veredict?

Some people I would imagine just like the red nose on the skin regardless of 'historical accuracy'...

It could be argued that if you need a poll to change a skin to make it 'correct' then you had better correct the tail marking as well...

Yes I know, before the fun police step in, it's all to do with the usual horlicks over banned symbols etc etc... yet we are seeing examples of of what the skin 'should' look like by the OP 'with' a correctly marked tail... and no one is batting an eyelid... just saying!

By the way, why not do two versions, one red, one yellow... and all sides will be happy  :)

I think it should change to yellow.

I vote for historical accuracy in this case. So yellow it is.

Clearly, if Hahn says the nose should be yellow, it should be yellow. I am always sceptical about people claiming to be able to determine colours from monochrome photographs, but the word of the pilot would seem quite adequate on its own.

Yellow but keep the other one as a fictitious skin.

Yes, I'd like a more accurate one, with the current one kept as a fictional option.

I don't know why a company would spend millions of dollars on every nuance of flight modelling, then go completely to pieces when faced with the very basic need to provide accurate and appropriate skins or those very same aircraft.

Yelllow Please.

TBH I didn't realize that there is such a skin untill now. I fly messers with Slovak Air Arms skins :)

If pilot who flew it,said it was gelb, gelb be it in the game. I wouldn't keep previous skin, even as fictional. It kind of negates the effort ;)

Yellow. Only an idiot would fly German over the East with red markings. The option for second staffel numbers to be in red (as opposed to black) was eliminated for just this reason.

The old one should be eliminated. We all make mistakes.

I agree with Lucas about the Soviet Spitfire as well - it just looks like a photo artifact to me, and I would not want to have such a prominent display of the enemy's primary recognition colour splashed all over my plane!.

Pinko:

In this book, two different aircraft of Hahn became "mixed" into one:

F-2 had little red victory marks on the upper part of rudder, III Gruppe simbol was a vertical bar. It had Richgofen chield under canopy, and yellow nose.

F-4 had white victory bars with RAF roundels, located in the middle of rudder. III Gruppe simbol was a white band all across fuselage. No Richtgofen emblem. Also, upper cowling of engine was not painted in yellow.

Yellow! Thanks for your hard work panzerbar.

Have you posted a link to this in the Russian forums? It could give another 30 at least.

Keep the red nose. It's different and it looks cool.

Well, to be fair, JG 2 never flew on the Eastern Front.

True. Then again, only an idiot would not check that. :)

It is still dead wrong - Both Channel/Western and Eastern Front recognition markings were yellow: some combination of nose, rudder, wing tips or fuselage band. If they were over-painted it would be with camo.  (Southern front - Med, Africa, used white).

Yellow and ditch the fictitional red nose one
