HippyDruid Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I would buy VR if the resolution wouldnt be that bad... so spotting will be a pain ^^ In my opinion, spotting aircraft is easier in VR than it is on a flat screen! Getting a positive ID on that aircraft at distance - that is where higher resolution would help.

Much easier to id targets now at range, and in vr the game still looks really good on low settings 1
chiliwili69 Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 A few short years ago you couldve payed $25 for a 5 min ride in this thing. Now you can OWN it, with an endless amount of variables and situations to play with at your leisure Yes, exactly like that. I am glad you were curious about VR and try it. Curiosity is a good thing to have. We can be fully immersed in a war scenario piloting our plane of choice and one minute later we take a beer a have dinner. Two very different worlds, you really need a time to disconnect, otherwise your only conversation topic during dinner is your vivid combat moments. You only need a 1000$ PC, 300$ HOTAS, a 400$ VR device and a 50$ game!!. I would pay three times or more for all the experience it delivers. You have it forever for you at your home. You don´t need to insert a coin every time you want to play. Paradoxically, the most important component (BOS) cost so little. If 1CG/777 open a donation channel I will contribute to pay for all these VR pleasant moments. If not, another way to demonstrate your gratitude is to spread this as much as possible in this forum and out of this forum. Everybody who loves planes will love this.
sergio_ Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I have just purchased the current Oculus sale. Still waiting for it to arrive. Not sure if, once I try it, my opinion will change, but I think you should first have a trackIr (or any cheaper solution as I have). I say that because the world of simulation is wider than what VR currently supports. It's kind of buying contact lenses without the support of actual glasses.

The thing is, although there are many sims that do not support VR, many of which you might play...... Once you have tried VR you'll probably turn your back on them anyway. Very few people go back to "flat" once they have seen the glory that is IL2 in VR
amlemans224 Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 My play time has increased due to getting the Oculus. Over time it has grown on my, actually the first time I was blown away and now its a must. Now all I look for is VR games, even play racing sims in VR, no going back now.
BlznSaddles Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I just got the Oculus a couple weeks ago on summer sale and I held off buying IL2 for a little while, trying some other things. I flew CloD for a little while and really liked it but there was just too much "Coming Soon" stuff with it and I got bored of waiting. When flying CloD, BoS seemed to be looked down upon a little as an inferior product and I was hesitant to buy it. Well, let me say: It should have been the very first thing I bought for the Oculus. It looks incredible and is easily as fun as CloD, and better in many respects. Flying these fighters in VR is an amazing experience which will only get better from here. I was having a lot of fun in Elite:Dangerous, but IL2 is much closer to what I was looking for. 1

I loved CLoD for what it was for a long time, but now that I am doing VR well it is that or nothing for me now.
BlueHeron Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I used to play a lot of flight sims before, but since getting the Rift I spend an unholy amount of time flying and racing in VR! This is seriously habit forming, which is OK if you don't need a job, a wife or food. Otherwise, exercise caution!
Night0wl Posted September 4, 2017 Author Posted September 4, 2017 Delaying the rift, just bought a second hand hotas warthog for (playing stuka mostly) and thought the double throttle will help a lot, and ordered the mfg rudder pedals from simunza so videocard upgrade will come later

I'm not sure why the double throttle will help much with the Stuka, but I did go out and buy a second Saitek throttle quadrant because I knew I was going to be flying a lot of the twin-engined birds in BoX in VR (which was peanuts compared to the new PC build and video card upgrade I did so I could enjoy the VR as maxed out as I could at this point). I just wish BoX had something else I could buy from the devs at this point - seems strange to spend all this money because of BoX and the devs don't get any of it (yet - they will as soon as they put anything else up for sale).

Well i figured using the keyboard/joystick with the rift isnt ideal, the hotas warthog seems like it has enough switches for all the controlls and the double throttle (one for engine rpm other for prop rpm i figured might be handy and i also love to fly the hs129 and bf110
Nufsed Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 (edited) There is just no way to explain the VR experience to someone who has never tried it! I did a couple of months research before I took the plunge because spending what equated to the cost of my first second hand car on a PC peripheral warranted such thoroughness. After testing the Vive and OR believe it or not I settled for the Pimax 4k! And I have not been disappointed. The Pimax has revolutionised my flight sim experience to the nth degree, most of the guff regarding the headset is just that, guff. It works perfectly well with both Steam VR and the Oculus software, has no screen door effect and the res has to be seen to be believed and with each iteration of software it gets that much better. I had no problems installing and it ran fine right off the bat. And the best part? It only cost me £265 for a brand new device, now that is a revolution! EDIT, I forgot to mention that the headset is slightly deeper than the other VR headsets which means I can wear my glasses without any discomfort. Edited September 5, 2017 by Nufsed
