Can no longer bring up the map?

For some unknown reason I can no longer see the map? I've tried with Hud on/off (H). Press M and nothing? It was working a few days ago, odd?

Wouldnt you need to press I before you press M? I should toggle the overlay option on and off.

But I agree with dburne, O is the better option (although fullscreen)

I was wondering about this myself the last few days - been trying to set up my controllers for VR, and I've been struggling with the map situation.  I thought I remembered that way back when there were two ways to do the map - "o" for the big, mission briefing screen and "m" for a smaller minimap, but I haven't messed with the on-screen map for a couple of years and something seems to have changed and I can't really figure out what (if anything) "m" does now.  Is there a way to get some sort of mini map to show up without getting the whole mission briefing screen with "o"?  (and hopefully without HUD being on)

Remember that "m" works only in normal difficulty.

Hmm - I use custom settings (everything turned off except spectators).  What would I have to turn on to make "m" work?  Is there a list somewhere of what gets ticked/turned on if you use "normal"?

IIRC, you need to have the hud on. I'm not on my computer so can't check right now.

Edit: Instrument panel has to be checked in the custom settings

Thanks - just checked it and sure enough, you have to have instrument panel checked and HUD on in order to see the minimap with "m".  You can hide the instrument panel with "i", but it still leaves HUD on with its attendant FPS drop.  Seems like an odd and unfortunate design choice to have the map tied to those other settings - sure would be nice if you could just decide whether or not to have the map by itself.  Maybe that's something they'll consider if they give some more thought to optimizing the game for VR - it's a pity to have the game perform so well with VR but still have this sort of basic usability problem for people trying to use VR.
