Spitfire Fuel Gauge

I must be missing something here.

To check fuel in this Spit requires a press of the fuel guage button.

IL-2 BoS does not support clickable cockpits, therefore we can not press the button.

Therefore they modeled it to give a reading every so often during level flight.

Similar to some of the levers and buttons need to be pressed/moved for startup procedure, that is automated as well.

Well your logic doesn't really make sense to me, because that's the case with every button. But this is the only one besides startup with any sort of automation, and what folks are saying is that the automation isn't as user friendly as it was probably intended, and the lack of manual control creates an unrealistic tactical advantage, i.e. you can't check your fuel before deciding to commit to an engagement.

Imagine if landing gear automatically deployed or retracted based on speed and altitude (like Battlefield 4 or other arcade games). It'd be sort of the same thing. But that would be silly not to allow pilots to manually control gear, so we can map a button to it. Folks want the same for the fuel button on Spit and I-16.

Edit: Okay, I get what you're saying, basically, "we don't have a fuel gauge button, and since the Spit needs one, they implemented this automatic bit" - yes, exactly. Myself and others are just saying we don't like this solution very much and would love a manual button to check fuel on demand instead. It would be just for I-16 and spit and unused for other aircraft, just like boost button is only for I-16, Spit and La-5.

But of course, this is a tiny thing in a wonderful sim, so I don't mean to whine too loudly.

Option 4: The button 'presses itself' when you look at the gauge with TrackIR/VR/View Controls.

Simple. Elegant. Immersive.

Elegant and immersive, but I'm not so sure about simple.

You would press a button on your keyboard that activates the button for the fuel check like using the gear or radiators...

Almost 7 years later, I'm getting into the Spit IXc for first time and have sat there waiting for the needle to move and show the fuel. Minutes go by, nada. How often does the needle move on the IXc in straight and level flight? Is it supposed to move at all during startup?

EDIT: I learned from another forum that this is now mapped to RCTRL+I by default. Thank you devs!

That has changed. You have to switch fuel indicator manually.
