BeastyBaiter Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 This is an offshoot of the VR benchmarking thread, I'm trying to get my R5 1600X and GTX 1080 TI do do something other than just 45 fps all the time. In BoS, CPU usage on the main thread used is right at 50% and GPU use is also at about 50%. Sometimes they are above, sometimes below but the frame rate remains locked at 45 no matter what. Whether BoS is set for minimum detail or max detail makes absolutely no difference in terms of FPS because of this. It won't go above 45 fps, and it has so much power left over that going beyond ultra settings doesn't actually hurt anything. I have ASW off (confirmed via no anomalies behind prop) but I haven't a clue as to what to set steamVR to. A screenshot or list of every single setting in steamVR would be immensely helpful. I don't know the default values, so working from there isn't an option.
Tuesday Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Maybe turn the SS in SteamVR up or down? Have you set it with The Oculus Rift program?
dburne Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 My guess would be your cpu is holding you back somewhat. What speed is it running? My 1080 Ti with my rig gets me 90 fps more often than not, with Ultra settings and terrain x4. I personally only use Oculus settings, I do not use any Steam VR settings. I disable ASW and run 1.6 PD through the Oculus Tray Tool with a profile set for BoS..
BeastyBaiter Posted August 6, 2017 Author Posted August 6, 2017 Problem found, had nothing to do with VR. EVGA's XOC Precision overclocking software that came with it was hard capping fps at 87.5 for some unknown reason. I had to uninstall that, the nvidia drivers, physically remove the card, put the old RX 480 back in, cycle the system and then reinstall the GTX 1080 TI to correct it. We can thank passmark for that discovery, the card was getting 1/3rd the score it did only a couple days ago and I noticed the fps in every single 3d benchmark was exactly 87.
dburne Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Wow, that certainly was a strange one... Computers , gotta love em! Glad you got it all sorted.
chiliwili69 Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 I am really glad you found the problem. it was not an easy one. Looking forward your VR benchmark with he Ryzen
