I am just about to purchase most of the modules.  I cannot find any information on how my purchased items will be delivered.  Are they on DVD's?  I also want to take advantage of the 40% off but do not see the coupon numbers.  I will wait until I receive the information here in the General Discussion thread before I finalize my purchases.

Thanks.  Laz

They're digital purchases, Ladzuc. Once you buy an edition of the game or additional aircraft, you will be able to use them in the game through the account you created to play. This helps keeping all your items unified in the game.

No DVDs, it's all downloaded. You download the installer and it downloads everything for you. All you have bought will be available to play.

There are no coupon numbers, you just purchase the items now before the sale is over.

The best way to verify that everything finalized properly is to check your account here. There is a section that will show what you have purchased, whole game modules and collector planes alike.

Just want to add to that, that your forum profile is not the same as your account profile. To access your account profile you need to log in from the main site, not the forum.

Thanks for the reply's.  I will be finalizing my purchases.  Probably take a week to download.

Up in the top right hand corner of this forum page you will see your name with a down arrow next to it, you will find everything about your profile.  the IL*2 Sturmovik banner at the top of the page is also a link that will take you to the site store and download pages, it will also show your purchases and keys to the game. That's where you will find the download tab, you will always be able to download the game once you purchase it from that tab..............  no need for a CD.............

Welcome aboard................ newbies buy a round.................

Cheers

Guys,

Sorry for all the questions, about how much room do I need on my digital drive?  My purchases will be BOM, BOS and a couple of add on aircraft.  Is there a file size on the description data?  Is the BOK package available?  I have ROF and several other flight sims.  I am going to change my computers around.  The computer I am on now will not be the one I want to install the IL-2 software I purchase here.  Also, is there some sort of copy protection as in DCS that monitors any changes to your computer and if it finds changes, it will disable your software?  I quess what I am trying to ask is .....am I stuck with one computer where the initial installation is made?  If I upgrade or move to another machine is everything going to crash?  I have a new machine and several others that I use for flight simulators.  One for VR, and another I have 3 monitors and another I have a 3-d monitor hooked up to.  I know this sounds bad.  I have been doing flight simulators for a loooooong time.

The aircraft in my photo belongs to a friend....he kindly let me fly it, the photo shows me at about 47.....almost 30 years ago.  I lost my medical so I am grounded as far as left seat is. (I am retired now, pushing 75 years old.)

Hey Hoss,  Hanford, California..............We landed our Beech D-18 there one day.....what a day that was....LOL.

Rounds on me.....

Welcome abroad, Laz!

This game is more flexible than DCS. When you install the game, you will use the email and password you registered on il2sturmovik.com to identify yourself. Any time you do that will make all your purchases available to you in any computer you're using. What this game does is, all the game content is downloaded and installed, and your account credentials determine which parts you can access. The downside is it takes a little extra space, but whenever a new aircraft or map is purchased you'll be able to access it instantly.

I believe my BOS install is around 7-8GB - can anybody confirm?

No, there is no hardcore restrictive DRM. You should be able to install on multiple computers and it's pretty common for guys around here to copy the game over to their new rigs - haven't seen any issues there - although you should note you'll only be able to play online on a single computer at a time.

Welcome Laz,

I have all three BOS plus all aircraft and scripted missions and they take up about 11 GB on the disk.

Minus screenshots my current install (plus a few downloaded skins and several Scripted Campaigns) is 23.6GB. It'll grow over time as new content is added (regardless of what you've purchased).

Hello again,

Last night I purchased the BOS,BOM and three planes.  I waited as I am changing computers. I noticed that I purchased about 10 aircraft on Rise of Flight (777 Studio) several months ago.  I have almost all of the DCS modules but I have not used any of them actually.  I did not want to be a alpha/beta tester so just waited until they will have a stable release where all of what I have purchased will operate correctly.  At the moment I do not know what works with what so I wait for 2.5.

and am tired of waiting.  I still have a few things to do on the new computer.  Looking forward to flying these war birds in BOS and BOM.

See you soon in the skys.

See you in the skies Lazduc - I too came from DCS and have never looked back. It's very good value of money for the content you get in Il2 and you'll find the flight models are on par with DCS.

Hope to see you in the skies too. You'll find these aircraft are wonderfully detailed and an absolute joy to fly!

Welcome. I also long time DCS fan boy. Now turn BOX fan boy. Got tired of waiting in DCS. This Sim is maturing in something special. I love the Dev`s passion to put out a high quality product but most important they do a lot in a faster time that DCS can only dream of. Thanks for your support and looking forward to see you in the skies. Kuban map is a masterpiece and can't wait for the Pacific coming up next.

Welcome, to BOS/IL2 world and please enjoy yourself, it is realy not important that you are new to the game or a "old" player from the begining of IL2.

This is a game you can enjoy at many levels.

You can play alone and fly solo without any ennemies.

Or with other players connected with other player in the same missions.

The most important is to have "fun".

And if you have more question the forum is vast and containst most of the answers.

Enjoy and fly this simulation for many year like I and many other did. :salute:

Have not yet played but watched a few utube videos.  The graphics are great.  Is there any instruction/information manuals?  How about VR?  4K? Guess I should list my computer specs.

Hope to have everything running soon.  I still dont know if I want to load Win 7 or Win 10...........any thoughts?  I purchased the Oculus and then decided if I get ill from it I also purchased a Sony 50" 4k monitor.

I also have a 3x monitor setup with an older system.  Funny thing, my new system probably will not run dcs without days of trouble shooting and frustration, I have given up on that sim.

As someone once said, He who hoots with the Owls all night does not soar with the Eagles at dawn so I call it a night.

For VR you should go Win 10, as the Oculus ASW technology is not supported in Win 7.

Thanks for the information.  So Win10 it is.  Might try a duel boot....I have plenty of room and I have a few older titles that do not like Win10.  I will try them first.  How close are the models systems modeled?  Are they a study sim type?

I am really not a button pusher nor a rivet counter.  I do like characteristics that come close but am not one to criticize simple items that may entail 6 months of re-writing code....say the color shade of dirt is a little off in the fall season.

Which,  forces the developers to develop a new graphics engine....so that will take 2 years and introduce a multitude of bugs that will have to be squashed before any semblance of stability will prevail.  Nursing old code to the detriment of customer's patience and having to re-write code that should have been up-graded years ago is something I have endured in another sim and one I do not want to endure again. The upgrades, stalls, never ending patches that introduce more bugs,  excuses, money for modules that are half baked and never finished has turned me off almost completely.

So I am really looking forward to flying 777 Studios simulators.   Sorry for the rant.

Game runs beautifully on Win 7 64 bit as well.  Concerning VR, under Win 7 oculus drivers use ATW instead of ASW, seems to workout the same, without the gun sight reticule and propeller visual anomaly of ASW.  You may want to look into getting some rudder peddles as I did not see any in your system specs.  :salute:

I think you'll be fine with any setup lol!

I'm running it on 2k 144hz monitor and fps goes 90-144 all the time.

I7 6700k non OC, gtx1070, 250ssd, 2400mhz ram, vkb gunfighter.

VR i guess is WOW, juicy monitors only if you have headtracking device.

Out of curiosity? What are you running that can't run on Win 10? I've not run into a single legacy app with any issues that I could run on Win 7 that I couldn't run on 10.

I think you'll find a lot to like here with the IL-2: BoX series. Its taken some time to mature but its very much coming into its own now. Flight models and damage models are very well done and while there are always going to be arguments over the specifics I think the vast majority of us feel that the most recent patch and a rather large flight model update (across the board to every single aircraft) has resolved the majority of the issues. All of the planes are very close to their real life counterparts. Its part study sim in that way while in other ways its more of a survey sim with the startup/shutdown sequences automated. That said, they are realistic startups and the rest of engine management at the Expert level of difficult is very realistic. For Normal the aircraft have the same engine management but there is a sort of AI subsystem that manages things behind the scenes.

Some will disagree but I think that 1CGS/777 have found a terrific balance. The flight model is hardcore but the approach to it is relatively accessible without being too simple. Its not perfect but its good. The other good thing here is that the series is doing very well with featuring specific battles and then focusing on the content of that battle. Stalingrad, Moscow and Kuban are three phases in the eastern front war and each release has had aircraft that match their time periods and battles very well. Also there's something for everyone (fighters, bombers, attack planes spread across both sides). It's focused and that means when you buy one of them you actually get a relatively complete release.

The one computer I have Win10 on is a laptop.  I loaded a couple of older programs and they failed.  I removed them....I use this laptop for Solid Works.  It is an I7, 16gb ram, 32gbssd, 1tb hdd, 8gb upgraded vid memory, 17" screen.

I cannot remember what programs failed.  I remember when I set up the ssd drive I had to call Dell and they talked me through this mind numbing process to enable this ssd to become the boot drive.  Originally it was drive F..it was weird.

All my other computers have Win7 Ultimate....errr and XP......and down the line to LOL ....Dos and CPM.

The Logitech G970 has rudder pedals.  I have a couple of others.  I also have a TIR-4 on the 3 monitor setup.  Naturally the flimsy detector broke, so it is now epoxied together.  Glad to hear the favorable report.  I have a pressing project that I must finish.....then onto the flight sim fun.  Thanks again for all the input.  You all are great.
