Ursyne Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 Im curious why this plane sees no love online and is almost always overshadowed by the other bomber?
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 You sure? Usually they're just flying at 300m trying to avoid detection, but you can always see them at airfields.
TXSailor_1 Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 I use it, but then I also use the I-16 a lot, and Bf-109E...
ShamrockOneFive Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Whenever I'm on I'm usually in one. Or I see a whole bunch of them. One of the most versatile and effective attack planes around.
Boaty-McBoatface Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 (edited) The 1943 model with the .50 Cal rear gun is definitely a go to. Edited August 6, 2017 by temujin 1

Feathered_IV Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 You sure? Usually they're just flying at 300m trying to avoid detection, but you can always see them at airfields. That's what I do.
7.GShAP/Silas Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 The Il-2 is what my group flies, but you'd only see us at base since we fly with the treetops the rest of the way. I see a healthy number of them at airbases, which is nice.
-SF-Disarray Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 It might also depend on what targets you are observing too. IL-2s are great for killing armor, vics, ships and other light or distributed targets. Blasting train stations, warehouses, and factory complexes on the other hand, is where the PE-2 shines. In truth, either bomber can take on both types of targets with some competence, it all comes down to weapon load outs. The cannon and rockets options of the IL-2 make killing dispersed targets easier, while the heavy bomb options on the PE make leveling groups of buildings fun and easy.
CanadaOne Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Nothing beats flying an IL2 at ground level, keeping up the speed, and when some lovely 109 flies way overhead, just lift your nose and take a sniper shot with the 37mm. I've done that online in IL2-46, and you can just hear the "WTF!" coming from the 109 pilot as he hurtles to the ground in a shredded 'Shmidt, wondering what just happened. It's so sweet.
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Every mission i play on WoL about 1/3 to 1/5th of the vvs forces are always IL2'swith a few players known to use them as bomber hunters and Suedo Fighters.
Herne Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 On WoL earlier this evening I took an IL2 to attack a tank column. when I got there, I was the last of about 7 IL2's that made quick work of not just the tanks, but the artillery, a train station and an enemy warehouse as well. I could not believe the carnage, these birds made without even having to return to re arm. Its not often i get back to base entirely empty of ordnance. I did tonight. 2
Pharoah Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 I love the IL2. On the next TAW campaign I'm going to fly the IL2 solely. Its the original SU-25T! lol. But yes, whenever I'm flying the IL2 you won't see me higher than 500m (and even then thats on the pop up just before the target).
CUJO_1970 Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 You sure? Usually they're just flying at 300m trying to avoid detection, but you can always see them at airfields. 300m Seems a little high to me... 7
Feathered_IV Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 lol and that FW is even lower Quite right. There is nothing lower.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Nice of you to help the Il-2 trim its garden, CUJO 1
CanadaOne Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 300m Seems a little high to me... IL2 BOS 15.jpg If you're not seeing the tops of trees when you look up, you're too high. 1
19//Moach Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 if you don't come back with squirrels lodged in the wheel wells, you're flying too high it's not that there aren't IL2's flying around, it's that when they do, they don't really wanna be seen
CUJO_1970 Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Nice of you to help the Il-2 trim its garden, CUJO I'm pretty helpful that way 1
ZachariasX Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 I'm pretty helpful that way Using the gras as we use the trees in CloD ^^
=WH=PangolinWranglin Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 I actually unmounted my prop and replaced it with a drill. This way I can fly so low, I'm underground. No one ever expects the underground IL2. 3

II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 (edited) 300m Seems a little high to me... IL2 BOS 15.jpg Well, you will get a medal from Stalin for harvesting hay! Although that may be tempered by the fact you killed one of his pilots in the process. Edited August 11, 2017 by II/JG17_HerrMurf
