PFR_Bearkiller72 Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 (edited) Salute, m8's! Title says it all, does anybody of you remember "Jane´s WWII Fighters" (1998), IMO the first title with decent gfx, which didn't look like 1980's vectors and a true and fine mission builder? Or am I the only one and just too old... Up until a buddy told me about some game called "Il-2 Sturmovik", back in late 2001, WWII Fighters was "my poison"... The game intro (where's the like button...?!): LowQ vid here, but covers most of the game's benefits: Been a long time since then and agreed, nowadays looks a bit like a console game, but back then before Sturmovik, it was a benchmark. And tbh, I wouldn't mind flocks of Infantry moving around, keeps the scene alive... And, by the way, did I mention this game turned me into a Fw-190 fanboy...? Well? Whadda you say? You remember? You like/dislike (as it's called nowadays...)? Edited December 13, 2013 by SK_Bearkiller72
siipperi Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Still have orginal cardboxed version somewhere. It was brilliant game for its time. Absolutely loved the museum view. 1
PFR_Bearkiller72 Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 (edited) Yup, me too! Museum walkaround and music were fantastic! Look at RoF today... I remember buying a second box up in Denmark to get hold of the "uncensored" version... Nice feature to it was to have a Spitfire instead of a Buchòn as Box Art. Part of the museum walkaround: Be honest: ain't that luxury? Edited December 13, 2013 by SK_Bearkiller72
Allons Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Hah, great find, my first online squad experience forming JG26 with Flanker (also a founder here). Great times. I dont remember anymore what was the name of the TS- program we used these days, BFC?? Green appearance and nice mic clicks it had.. Best, Allons!
1CGS LukeFF Posted December 14, 2013 1CGS Posted December 14, 2013 The museum feature of Janes WW2 Fighters is simply brilliant.
II./JG27_Rich Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 (edited) I still have mine. The only problem was no one wanted to play the missions you could get at psycho central. WWII Fighters had fantastic sound. Edited December 14, 2013 by II./JG27_Rich
SCG_Vonalba Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 yep still got it, i flew under JV44 in janes wow loved that sim, it was my first remeber first hyper lobby hahaha that was different too
SimFreak Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 The museum feature of Janes WW2 Fighters is simply brilliant. Indeed. That feature along build a lot of immersion. Haven't seen another sim do same.
BFsSmurfy Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 (edited) My first flight sim purchase back in the day, the museum and removable panels were superb, the planes looked good and so did the pits. The follow up release was absolute crap however. Edited December 15, 2013 by BFsSmurfy
DB605 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Loved that sim on it's day, especially museum and real pilots interviews.
Skoshi_Tiger Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Pre-Il2 I flew most of the Jane's series from USNF onwards. Landing a Harrier's on roof tops prompted me to buy my first HOTAS! Also flew my first multiplayer missions in the Janes series. For ages I had WWII Fighters set up for LAN multiplaying at Home for when my nephews came over. It was a good, simple and immersive game that was a fairly easy introduction to Combat Flight Simming. Later on they released the Janes Attack Squadron but I guess it was competing against sims like the original IL2 and never quite got there before it was canned and the development team was dispanded. My favrourite element was the multimedia museum/video's that gave the background for the aircraft. In my opinion no other sim has out done it.
Cybermat47 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 That opening is extremely cheesy... but still fun to watch
