Looking to start on wol

Played enough of the sim now to try and get some legs on mp. But I have some questions and was curious if there was a mp guide/faq.

I'm only vaguely aware of how it all really works but can't find much information. For instance, I've heard about sortie status... if you are landed in your airfield you aren't supposed to lose the plane, right? I've played one game and ran out fuel with no kills or deaths, and landed at the home port. I wasn't sure how to check the status, so I just exited the game. How could I confirm I did no harm, or even refuel or pick another plane?

Also, I noticed that only certain planes are available to fly. I learned to fly on a yak, but found I'm better in a 190. Does wol ever allow those planes?

Lastly, when I pull up the map I can check my plane's location on it. Is this allowed on wol?

Just looking for some guidance.

I think you can check your flight stats using tab. Aside from that, don't focus on stats... Instead, focus on objectives.

You can't rearm/refuel. Spawn out of the aircraft after landing and spawn back in in a new one.

Yes, only certain maps/rotations allow certain aircraft/modifications. This is an MP mission design thing and up to the server operator/designer.

Yes, you can use O to open your map and WOL does allow GPS on the map. This is an MP mission design thing and up to the server operator/designer.

When you finish your flight, rather than exit the game, sometimes the game will give you feedback on the result. For servers like WOL though that run custom difficulty settings, the results don't always match up.

Things like being captured are calculated differently back in the WOL stats page. Kills as well, with the most common difference being if you damage a plane and he screws up the landing wrecking the engine in the process, but landed on the home airfield - then that kill counts on the in game stats - but not on the WOL stats page.

Visit this page after the mission rotates to see how you performed - http://il2stat.aviaskins.com:8008/en/

One more note - if you land your plane successfully back at your home airfield, that plane will then be available for reuse by your team.

If you land your plane at a different active airfield that also has that same plane type available - then your plane is added back into that airfields pool.

If you land your plane at an active airfield that your type of plane is not able to be selected, the plane is lost. As is the case if you crash/or land at an inactive airfield.

Personally, i would say not to worry and just get started. WOL is a bit of a jungle with little organization, lots of lone wolfs and nearly no team coordination. Its not a bad thing, especially if you are just getting started. Just go for it and dont worry too much about dying.

Berloga furballs are also good for some quick gratifying PVP combat

Finnish Dynamic War is also good for practicing ground pounding as its usually pretty quiet, and you can fly whatever you want. Assuming you own it ofc

Jump in head first, get on comms TS or Discord for a better mp experience. Enjoy.

Nice advice all. I think I'll just jump in headfirst on wol. Gotta get your feet wet somehow and it seems like the server to do it.
