Thad Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 (edited) Capture-The-Flag Group for Single Player Mission BuildersSalutations,I desired to have such a group for my single player tank missions to vary the game time element and have a different objective goal option. After many, many, and even more hours I got the Capture-the-Flag group to perform as I desired. This Group was built to work on the Lapino map and the Player must defend the Russian Flag Zone against the imposing German AI forces by accumulating flag area control time of 10 minutes for a win. This missions 30 minute timer can be started by check zones flown through by AI planes taking off from one of the airfields, by the player or AI vehicle driving into such a check zone. It can also be started in other ways. There are two Airfield groups, Yantar and Lapino, a Flag Group and a Timing and Scoring Group included in the overall GROUP. They can all be un-grouped and manipulated for changes, (refer to the Mission Editor and Multiplayer Server Manual for such insights).Players can press [ F12 ] to view the status of the flag close up during play. In its Stock form.. a player must be within a 2,500m radius zone around the flag to earn control time. The size of the radius zone may also be modified as desired for tank battle usage. The side with the most units in the zone will cause the flag to rise and be captured and start earning control time. The flag stops if there are equal numbers of units from each side or can reverse the situation if the enemy moves more units into the Flag zone.If neither side meets the 10 minute goal before 30 minutes are up, the mission will be scored a 'stalemate'.Feel free to modify the Group for your own needs or preferences. There is a README of this post included in the .zip for reference. Enjoy.Thad Questions and copious praise will equally be accepted. Please no crippling insults or complaining. -DED-YOZHIK-- Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 Hello, the game does not see the mission. In missions, usually 9 notebooks, and here only 7. Thanks.
JimTM Posted August 1, 2017 Posted August 1, 2017 (edited) Hello, the game does not see the mission. In missions, usually 9 notebooks, and here only 7. Thanks. It's not a mission, it's a group that you can place in your missions. Check your "Group" category in your mission editor object library. Edited August 1, 2017 by JimTM
Thad Posted August 1, 2017 Author Posted August 1, 2017 (edited) JimTM is correct. It is not a mission. It should be placed in you 'Groups' Folder which should be in your games 'Missions' directory. Please refer to the IL-2 Battle Of Stalingrad Mission Building Guide, pg. 8 2.5 Groups Objects and commands can all be combined into groups. Groups are often self-contained units such as an AAA battery or an aircraft flight. Groups can be copied and pasted, as well as being saved to a folder and imported into a new mission from the missoin editor object library. To edit objects within a group right click the group and choose Set Group as Working. Groups can include other groups. I've updated the .zip file contents to include the needed Groups folder. This folder should be placed in your games 'Missions' directory. Edited August 1, 2017 by Thad
TP_Jacko Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Thad I have tried out the group. I have driven German tanks into the zone but get the message that the Russians are winning. However the German flag shows on top of the pole. Would the messages be correct or should they be swapped
Thad Posted August 16, 2017 Author Posted August 16, 2017 (edited) Without seeing your scenario.. I'm not sure what is going on. Are your referring to my mission that includes it? You should not receive the message Russians are winning and any time. Only 'Russians Control the Flag Area' or the 'Russians Win'. Or the German version of the same messages. It will also send messages reporting the area controlled for five (5) and eight (8) minutes for the respective sides. Did the flag start out as neutral, German or Russian? A side normally wins if if controls the flag area for ten (10) minutes. I think it takes about four minutes for the flag to go down and be raised for the new area controller. Offhand, I would guess that the Germans did not control the area for the required 10 minutes to gain the victory. If you have a mission with the problem... please post it for download and I'll take a look to see if I can discover the problem. I have not seen such a problem during my mission testing. TP_Jacko Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Hi Thad, I will sleep on it. I am using your group as is. I send in 4 German tanks in first followed by 8 Russian tanks a few minutes later
Thad Posted August 16, 2017 Author Posted August 16, 2017 If you start the flag out as white or neutral and 4 Germans go in... the flag should change to German. When the Russians outnumber the Germans, the flag should start down and go back up and become a Russian flag.

When the Russians outnumber the Germans, the flag should start down and go back up and become a Russian flag. Hello Thad, I replayed the mission with the camera view and it played exactly as you say. The only thing was the messages were using the opposite affiliation i.e. saying German when I was expecting Russian. So when the Germans were outnumbered the message was saying the Germans captured the Flag. So far I can't see any fault in you group and its following mostly what JimTM laid out in his superb mission builder manual. Hey ho back to work for now
Thad Posted August 17, 2017 Author Posted August 17, 2017 Yes, I modified the JimTM manual version to get it to work. The one in the manual simply did not work properly. I spent many hours sorting it out and changing it to have a good working group.
JimTM Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 (edited) Yes, I modified the JimTM manual version to get it to work. The one in the manual simply did not work properly. I spent many hours sorting it out and changing it to have a good working group. Further to Thad's note, the version in the manual stopped working because flag capture events OnFlagCapturedBy01 (Russians) and OnFlagCapturedBy02 (Germans) no longer respond. I was going to log a bug report but RL events got me sidetracked. Update: I just logged a bug report for this problem. Edited August 17, 2017 by JimTM
JimTM Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 (edited) Thad, try your group again with the flag capture messages. It looks like the messages have been fixed in the latest IL-2 update. Edited August 31, 2017 by JimTM
TP_Jacko Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Super. Glad to hear this has been fixed. I did learn a trick or two with counters but would like the fix more
