Best Way To Update?

Is there a way to update the game without having to re-install ...  and avoid remapping all you commands?

To avoid remapping I suggest to backup the data/input folder. Just copy it back after updating.

What are you asking, more precisely? Launcher.exe will let you through the automated updating procedure, you'll only have to wait for it to finish without any need to reinstall anything. Also, for what it's worth, updates do not seem to reset your key bindings.

 

On a sidenote, I backed up the file current.actions (inside your data/input folder - this precise file seems to be the place where bindings are stored) and had to use it only once, but that was after I did a Recovery and not an update.

After today's update, the file was unaltered, so it seems like you do not need to back anything up at all unless you reinstall/delete files or do the recovery thing.

Same here, all my control settings were saved as they were after the update.

When I tried in the past to update by launching the game and selecting "Update" the game updated but after would not start.  I got some cannot locate server or wrong user name/password.  The only way I could fix was to un-install and re-install game ...  and lose my settings.  But if that happens this time I will copy and paste my current data/input folder.  Thanks for the tip!

Just run the Launcher, the #3 and #4 update were very small in size 30-40MB only.

Just run the launcher (Launcher.exe). There's still loop from previous update no. 3 so need to press cancel after finished updating. And then just run the game (IL-2.exe).

So far it's all Okay from my side, able to run just fine.

 

The flight recorder is awesome with the forward and rewind slider, well done devs! War Thunder can't get it right from the start without including this fast forward/rewind feature. I'm not sure if it's because of the game engine limitation or plain laziness on their part.
