This is really great sim but I have beginner Q's .

I had time to try this game out. It is really very nice and very difficult but very enjoyable and i am interested in getting better and enjoy the full out off it.

I am all over the place reading on the forum and youtube channels (and subscribing to Bismarck, burner tactical). Really awesome vids. gr8 job. i enjoy them and try to learn from it.

But some question i have. I have some partially answers but it would be nice to have the in condensed format at one place to refer to, since other beginners like me might struggle with the same Q's like i do.

How to find out if the opponent is friend or foe.

I run out of bullets in one or two chases very fast. No reload?

What you do when you run out of bullets. Back to base?

What altitude should you general be for flying around.

Should you be on full throttle all the time?

Are their live radio channels you suppose to be on for comms. (in game, ts, discord)

Is mp also with co-op missions?

What range should the enemy be before engaging with fire.

What side to choose or airport?

What server for beginners like me?

Are players on expert mode or mixed in mp?

Should i start with beginner mode or expert mode to learn, or is mp auto expert selected?

what plane(s) and side to begin with.

are there any training servers with friendly and adult (behaving) people giving pointers or lessons to join in weekends or evening or during the day.

(Would be gr8 learning to fly and land and dogfighting with some ppl helping you out)

Is there a map during flying or how do you know where you are or suppose to be. To be in the action so to speak.

Are their some kind of scheduled team fights?

About VR. My rig is imo well equipped for VR but i get the 45 fps in game instead the 90 fps needed for optimum game play.

It seems most ppl have this. Is it solved in the mean time or what to expect for the future or any pointers (gtx 1080 gpu, 16GB ram, win 10, ssd's, i5-4660K 4.0Ghz.)

As mentioned in some threads you get blurred ghosting planes around you and id-ing for beginners is very difficult to say the least (actually impossible 4 me atm)

Any real pilots out there who could give on a scale 1-10 how close the sim is to the real deal (1-not at all, 10 100% except when you crash then the sim is much better to fly with).

Probably more Q' are coming after the answers are posted :)

THANKS ALL!

How to find out if the opponent is friend or foe. Experience, making mistakes and a lot of practice. There are also some good resources for IDing plane silhouettes and stuff like that on the forums somewhere.

I run out of bullets in one or two chases very fast. No reload? No reload. These aircraft only carried seconds of firing time worth of ammunition.

What you do when you run out of bullets. Back to base? Back to base. No reloading on airfields right now. Spawn out, spawn back in.

What altitude should you general be for flying around. Depends on the aircraft, the mission, etc. Good rule of thumb if you want to meet up with opposition 1000-3000M.

Should you be on full throttle all the time? Generally, no.

Are their live radio channels you suppose to be on for comms. (in game, ts, discord) Available in various locations on the forums.

Is mp also with co-op missions? Some hosted co-ops exist. The general MP environment is air quake/duel.

What range should the enemy be before engaging with fire. Depends on where you've converged your guns. Generally no more than 400m.

What side to choose or airport? Up to you. Subject to "team balance" and where the objectives are on the map.

What server for beginners like me? DED Normal.

Are players on expert mode or mixed in mp? Most players are expert. Not sure what you mean with MP.

Should i start with beginner mode or expert mode to learn, or is mp auto expert selected? I suggest learning in expert. There isn't much to get frustrated with as far as CEM goes.

what plane(s) and side to begin with. German aircraft are objectively easier because you can dictate the terms of engagement in most situations. I find VVS aircraft more forgiving in flight characteristics.

are there any training servers with friendly and adult (behaving) people giving pointers or lessons to join in weekends or evening or during the day. Most people on most public servers will help you out but you may want to look in to a virtual squadron of some kind.

(Would be gr8 learning to fly and land and dogfighting with some ppl helping you out)

Is there a map during flying or how do you know where you are or suppose to be. To be in the action so to speak.  Press O to view the map. However, if a server doesn't have icons enabled you need to learn dead reckoning and how to use landmarks to your advantage.

Are their some kind of scheduled team fights? Again, virtual squadrons.

Hope that helps!

Regarding your 45fps in VR........  The main culprit is usually the HUD.  In particular, the map.  If you fly with the HUD on, which isn't a bad idea for us beginners, then try to just toggle the map on momentarily whenever you need it.  You should see an almost doubling of frame rate.

About learning and server to play questions, i will tell you what worked for me:

1) Star playing SP, normal mode, to make familiar with the plane you choose to begin with. (Maybe Yak 1 for VVS and 109 for LF). First quick missions alone, then quick missions vs a transport plane or bomber, then quick missions vs fighter (novice level). Then and only when you are comfortable with the plane, understood basic moves, landing and taking off, stall and recover, aiming, shooting,...and more important, whe you have the feeling that you dominate the plane and no the opposite, only then go to point 2

2) Combine playing MP in DED normal server (for fun, to don´t loose engage with the game, to start understanding fighting human behavior and to help you recognize enemy shapes with icons), with playing sometimes SP expert mode quick missions alone, (to start learning engine management, fuel mixture, less forgiving plane reactions,...). When you understand expert mode mangement of the plane go to point 3.

3)Play MP expert servers, WOL, at first so you dont worry about navigation, then when you are confortable can add Expert random or TAW or whaterver, and add navigation to the mix!

That was mi route. Salute and welcome to this passion!  :drinks:

(Of course, after point 1 play SP campaigns when you please)

To Glitter's point, you should fly both Normal and Expert early on. The Expert servers are closer to historical (closer/not exact) and the Normal servers are more about fun. There are no bounces in Normal due to icons but the action is fast and it's more about the maneuvering fight than diehard simulation. Normal is also good if you don't have the time to commit to long detail oriented missions. Expert is probably more rewarding but both are fun for what they are.

*Also, be prepared to get shot down a lot in either type of server in the early going. Most pilots have hundreds to thousands of hour of virtual combat regardless of server type.

THANKS ALL!

Will do my best to answer some questions too. Gives you a range of perspectives :)

  1. Best thing to do is learn the aircraft types. Use the game information, the website, and Wikipedia to get a sense of the shapes. That should help with identifying enemies. In Normal mode coloured icons helps too.
  2. Precision aim is a must in World War II aircraft which helps conserve ammo. It takes a while to learn to aim and be precise... Just keep practicing. You'll get it eventually and we all have bad days too :)
  3. Back to base is what happens when you run out of bullets. Just like the real guys :)
  4. Very situational - Flying an attack run on tanks? Very low level. Flying interception? Probably at 4000 or 5000 meters. Frequently I'm somewhere in between.
  5. Definitely not. Few planes are designed to run at full throttle the whole time. Better to run at 80% or less depending on the aircraft type. Details and specifications are in the Objectives/Map (press O) screen for how long you can run at different throttle/RPM/boost settings.
  6. There are TeamSpeak and Discord servers running these days. Nothing is built into the game.
  7. No co-op missions are available yet but it is a feature that is expected before the end of the year.
  8. Depends on your aircraft but generally no more than 300 meters and usually less (.30 with icons on). Ideally 200 meters is a good spot.
  9. Not sure what you mean.
  10. That's tough... I'd stay offline till you feel confident you're ready for a competitive experience. One of the servers marked Normal is probably a good place to start.
  11. In multiplayer the server decides the mode. Normal or Expert (or custom).
  12. Some will say Expert mode... but I say learn Normal first. Get a feel for things. Try Expert later.
  13. Either side... lots of excellent aircraft. For fighters try the Bf109 (any version) for German and the Yak-1 for Russian.
  14. Not aware of any training servers but many server members are open to helping out. Voice comms helps too.
  15. ...
  16. M key for map toggle in Normal mode. O for Objective full screen map in Expert. Usually the briefings detail locations and grid numbers for targets and objectives. Single player missions usually have waypoints marked on the map and icons appear in the sky in Normal mode.
  17. There are. Dedicated Bomber Squad (DBS) does for example. There are others to be sure.

Hope that helps a bit.
