Yeah the back and forth, Editor to Game is a slog...no doubt.

It burns a lot of time.

You keep on with the friendly kvetching, and we'll keep on with the friendly responses. :)

It's all good. I know it's not the friendliest thing to open and stare at.

On the other hand comparing the power of the two editors is like comparing Microsoft Paint to Photoshop CS.

Plus I don't see a plethora of quality user-made campaigns for DCS despite it's easier to use editor.

If I purchased the MiG 15, how many campaigns are available to me?

See what I mean?

Hello. :)

Absolutely it is a powerful tool. But if it is a tool that is so powerful that it causes people not to want to use it, or not able to use it, I think the benefits are wasted. Which makes me wonder why it is even included. I remember people bitching and whining about the RoF ME and how unusable it was, so someone went way out on a limb and decided to include pretty much the same anachronistic ME in BOX. That one befuddles me to no end.

I've managed to put some AAA down and make a player controled plane, but there really is precious little joy in using the ME. If BOX was a job I wouldn't complain,. But it's a game and games are supposed to be fun and the ME in this sim isn't.

Thus my endless opinion.

Only because they're not willing to give up some flying time to make that initial time investment to learn it.

As I said before, it's not that hard. The basic logic is easy to grasp and once you create say a flight of 4 aircraft taking off...you never have to re-create it again.

or not able to use it,

Granted it's not for dummies, and sure some people are too thick to get a handle on it, but nobody I've addressed here on the forum about the editor including you falls into that category.

I think the benefits are wasted.

Far from...as I said before I wouldn't trade this editor for the old one, which would make me feel hamstrung.

I remember wanting so badly to be able to spawn aircraft in certain places triggered by certain events. It was but a dream then...now I can.

I an do almost anything I can think of.

Which makes me wonder why it is even included.

Because the community asked for it, and a few individuals have made good use of it.

I remember people bitching and whining about the RoF ME and how unusable it was,

Yes, I was one of them. I opened it up and it was so complicated and convoluted appearing compared to what I was used to, I got discouraged, closed it

down, and proceeded to make posts about how convoluted and unfriendly it was. Frankly that was just lazy of me.

That was a few years ago. After Bos, then BoM, then actually opening the editor and putting a few evenings in I realized I that not only could I use it, but I could do everything I used to do and more.

Oh, and a forum of helpful individuals to answer questions to boot...and guides...and videos.

so someone went way out on a limb and decided to include pretty much the same anachronistic ME in BOX. That one befuddles me to no end.

You think that because you don't have a basic understanding of it.

It's not anachronistic, in fact it's quite the opposite. Yes you have to object link waypoints

to the aircraft, (click, click) and place a "command take off" node and link it, (click click click) then a command land node and link it...but honestly once you learn these things then you've learned them...and you just get on to building.

It's not quantum mechanics...you don't have to be Stephen Hawking to figure this out. Everything you do in the editor makes perfect sense, unlike say algebra (which you've compared the editor to) where at a certain point

in the equation you perform an operation that makes no sense, but you simply have to remember to do it or the whole thing goes to crap.

The editor isn't like that at all.

I've managed to put some AAA down and make a player controled plane, but there really is precious little joy in using the ME. If BOX was a job I wouldn't complain,. But it's a game and games are supposed to be fun and the ME in this sim isn't.

Thus my endless opinion.

It does take some time, but if you put some time that you'd otherwise spend flying you can get to the point where you're not thinking, and just building faster than you realize.

I know I know "I'm but a simple man"...but honestly it's a simple matter of learning what just a basic few nodes do and how they talk to each other...which in and of itself is rather simple.

These simple nodes can be built up and built up to create something very complicated, like this paragraph composed of simple words.

I see you are to be my most formidable opponent in this matter.

I would love to see the editor integrated with the game so you dont have to go back and forth.

The number of times ive decided to move on and not finish a mission because of the drag of going back and forth... I would have finished two more campaigns by now.

Yep - the old "fly" button up in the corner of the editor is sorely missed.

SEOW!!!!

Scorched Earth Online War campaign system.

Basically make it possible for two opposing commander to direct ground units and divide production among online squads.

Yes yes, DCS editor is so simple that anyone can learn it instantly and use it to put an airplane and a truck on the map.

Ask me how many worthwhile software programs I create content with, and how many of those worthwhile programs fall into the "it's so simple, it's Sofa King simple!"

"I didn't need any discipline or attention span or dedication to learn it whatsoever!"

"My cat was using it in ten minutes!" category.

I'll give you a hit...less than one, greater than -1.

Simplicity can be its own reward.

Hemingway won a Nobel prize writing sentences that could fit on a postage stamp using words that barely made it to two syllables. The Ford F150 is still the best selling vehicle. And even little kids on Neptune know the intro to Beethoven's 5th.

The deviancy of complication for the sake of achieving a goal has merit only if complication is the goal. If the mission editor in this sim is supposed to resemble one of those video puzzle games where you are stuck in a room and have to figure out how to get out, then I say goal achieved and medals are to be awarded. However, if the goal was to make a fun and creative tool that enables the user to make content without entering into a labyrinth of unnecessary twists and turns that irrevocably kill the fun of creating that content, then it's a failure.

As Thoreau said: "Simplify! Simplify!" :)

I like them all but clickpits are my top anticipated feature now when we have nice graphics, upcoming coop and career mode and Pacific theatre on the way.

I know it is not planned for BoX but i can dream ;)

A good western theater would be my choice.

With the plane set that you have you could do different Europe/Malta/Africa/Italy theaters. You just need the maps (and maybe few planes).
