Level Bombing. Too acurate?

Monostripezebra, was that a custom skin on the DH.4 in the video?

If so it might be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

It´s lovely. A historic navy skin. It´s in one of the official skin packs.

Yep, it's a skin based on a plane that was specially modified and camouflaged for a planned photo-recon of the Kiel Canal in the summer of 1917.

Awesome. I'll need to work out how to get it on a Peshka now...

Anyone knows why the german level bomb sight is drifting off target both vertically and horizontally in Auto track even if all set properly?

Thanks

Because it doesn't track the ground, it's a Non-Self-Correcting algebra Machine based on gears and gyros. if you get your speed, wind and altitude even slightly incorrect it will drift.

So the best method is to, when level, entering values that don't drift, simply by trying out what works.
The game also simulates the effect different Temperatures have on your Altimeter, so in Winter your Altimeter will normally read higher than actual and in Summer will read lower than you actually are. This is because different Air Temperatures mean different Air densities and a different Air Pressure Gradient through Altitude.

Just read off the dials present in the bombsight, it will never fail you and will always land accurately - ignore every other readout for the purpose of level bombing.

That's exactly what I do, but it still drifts no matter what. Reason why I'm asking is, back in the Microprose Mighty 8th once you've set everything right, the crosshair of the Norden will stay dead on, no matter how far out you turn on auto tracking. But if the (german) crosshair drifts, like it always does in the IL-2 and you need to constantly set it back again and again to the point you want to bomb, how could it land dead on? Dead on to which point?

I know it obviously doesn't track the ground "picture", but it should be stationary over the point you pick in the distance, if you've set everything according to your bombing station instrument panel, shouldn't it? That would be the point in setting everything right, to make the "giro computer" track that point on the ground with the crosshair.

By the way if you for instance enter slower speed, then the crosshair will move downwards slower, but will pickle at the same sight angle, so your bombs will be way long. Spent a whole afternoon trying to find any sweetspot by setting the values individually back and forth. Didn't work. If your crosshair is stationary, the bombs will fall long.

Not necessarily. As I said, the Bomb Panel can be off, due to atmospherical effects/temperature.

OK but if it can be off in a simulator, shouldn't there be a proper bombing calculation method for the bomber guy to consider them too, and have accurate hits?

As they would have back in the Day, trial, error, experience.

Don't do it under ideal conditions if you want to make it hard,

These guys dropped high in bad conditions with only a fuzzy idea where the target was.

Bonus points if you do your own math to calculate speed, altitude and wind speeds

TLDR, Yeah, itll be easy if you use all the tools given to you, but if you turned the HUDS off there's your realism!

I always turn it off. Is there a HUD in the bombing staton too? I always look at the top left for inputs.

for me there is a gameplay reason.

How many bombers did attack a target in WW2 and how many here in gsme offline and online......

With a „historical“ hitrate, few would fly bombers in game.

Is there a video or some kind of instruction on using the bomb site in an A20?

I can hit the ground. With bombs or my aircraft I have a 100% hit ratio.

The [A] level autopilot make bombing arcadish together with the simplfied bomb aim interphase.

In this aspect COD got it right, tuning the ac and bomb aim give a bit more workload but give a unhistorical accuracy, I feel we should be able to hit a target , given the online gameplay and there is no way to get a historical correct number of bombers in the air. But it should be with a more realistic but workable auto pilot. We are doing a bomber crews workload, so authentic workload is not doable

The last bomber introduced to the game (A-20 Kuban) doesn't even come with a functional bombardier position in the nose, the positions are incomplete - that's how little thought goes towards bomber aircraft now.

The A-20's bombardier position wasn't modeled, because there are no gun turrets located there. It's nothing to do with lack of thought.

Imho a bit of an oversight given players would have appreciated the position even if no gun is present, having the glass nose helps with navigation a good bit.
