Pilot Default view off-center to the left???

Recommended Posts

Playing a series of campaigns today in the A-3 and as the day progressed, the default view of the pilot has shifted to the left.  This leaves me leaning to the right to get the aiming reticule centered.  I've started the game over, restarted Track IR too (which itself says it's exactly dead center), but the default view still is to the left.

It's not as bad in the 109, and sometimes it's not as pronounced, but it still seems to be a bit to the left.

Any ideas?

Thanks!  I've not encountered this; but I've been away from the game about 4 months...

I've done some quick missions and found the the problem ONLY lies with the A-3.  The A-5, F-4, G-4, and P-40 are all perfectly fine.

Hopefully this works, but here is what I see:

As you can see, it's to the left and I can't even see the aiming reticle

Align your head so you can see the crosshair and press F10 (not sure if that was the button). It should now show the crosshair correctly everytime.

Ah, yes...Thanks!  Like I said, it's been a while!

I was thinking that too - from the screenshot, it looks like your default head position should be centered in the cockpit (and thus to the left of the gunsight, which is offset to the right of center), and since the gunsight itself is offset to the right you would need to lean right to align with the gunsight.  It's been a long time since I've been inside the A3, but IIRC several of the German planes are like that so I would assume the A3 probably is as well.

You can see a LOT more wing to the left than right on that screenshot. That would lead me to believe, regardless of gunsight position in the cockpit, the head is NOT centered relative to the aircraft.

Except in VR (and real life), whereby the sight actually lines up with your right eye so no leaning required. Left eye sees past the left of the gunsight.

Yea, in VR it is perfect. You concentrate your focus on the target, the left eye sees past the crosshair on the left of it, and the right eye gets the crosshair as an overlay to its vision.

Well, I took that to mean that his head was centered in the cockpit but he was turning his head slightly so looking more leftward, from a centered position, which would explain why there's more left wing visible.  If he were looking straight forward from that head position, it would still look like he was to the left of the gunsight, because the gunsight is offset to the right.  (Haven't got my VR set up yet because I'm still waiting for my prescription lenses to arrive, so I can't vouch for how it looks in VR).

I agree with this and I can also confirm that when I use the F10 save in my game it does twist the view i.e. skew the view to one side.

So you're saying that if you put your head centered in the cockpit and looking straight ahead, and then press F10, the saved position actually skews the view so you're twisted to the left?  Never noticed that happening before, but haven't tested it lately - now you've got me curious so I'm going to have to go in and do some tests.

OK - did a quick test in an A3 - I did not see any such twisting/skewing when I saved a centered view with F10:

Just before hitting F10 to save:

After looking around and then hitting Numpad 5 to recenter view:
