DickDong Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 I'm just trying to put you in the shoes of someone who is not in this thread. This seems to be a point that I appear to be having great difficulty getting across. Discord invites are plenty here - but imagine you go to an empty IL2 TS server - trouble is you lot are not there to jump out of nowhere with Discord invites. That's all I'm trying to say. The server admins are just turning the corner on supporting this.
56RAF_Roblex Posted September 16, 2017 Posted September 16, 2017 My squadron uses TS but we use someone elses that was set up for when we used to play CLoD and it has separate channels for each squad as well as a master channel mostly used when someone was working as Fighter Control (It's OK they also left CLoD and don't mind us using their TS) The server we played on in CLoD was squad oriented and everyone was disciplined & well behaved regarding comms. The problem is that if we went into the official BoX TS when it was empty then it would not be long before people saw us & starting joining it and asking inane questions or just chatting amongst themselves while we are trying to co-ordinate ourselves and our mission. Even within our own squad we often find cross chatter gets in the way so start using whisper channels within each flight and leaving the main channel for comms between flights. I admit it would be nice to co-ordinate with others or at least hear where we are being attacked , where they are attacking , where the enemy are etc. but it is hard to work out how to co-ordinate with others without having to listen to irrelevant chatter. If there was a single channel reserved for brief and useful info and otherwise people used other channels for their squad comms or for odds & sods to gather and chat then it might work. 1
Firestorm07 Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 I completely agree with Flit's position. We came in here to discuss TS servers and now we are discussing software options - the complexity bar has gone up a notch for the newbie and every time we as the community migrate to some new platform without developer sanction or an official announcement of some sort, we make the entry level induction more and more difficult for new and up and coming pilots who have no idea where they need to go or what they need to get to become connected with the community. I agree that discord is better as a platform. Is it the right platform for maximising community uptake? Presently I doubt it. But, if there was an "official" Discord address announced here that was front and centre and easy for new pilots to access, then all for it. Its not about the software, its all about information exchange with the community.
Leon_Portier Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 Both TS and Discord are very common and the info is usually in the briefing in the map screen. Its pretty hard to miss I´d say. Regarding speech coms, I just do not have a good k/d and dont want to get yelled at. Dunno if that speaks for others tho.
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 There was problem to find ppl playing TAW and now is similar with Random.
DickDong Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 (edited) Its a community problem, mind blowing imo. Both software options are simple compared to the virtual planes you operate. Just like you should take time to learn to navigate and fly without gps, you should take the 5 min max it takes to google how to setup ts or discord and do it. Only in this game do I have such issues linking up on ts. Edited October 14, 2017 by banzaii1 2
Tag777 Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Official TS server has people on it almost all the time these days (well, at least in my short experience). I think is probably a timetable problem. 2
[CPT]milopugdog Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 I feel like TS has a lot more people on voice. I've got a Discord with a lot of people on it (290 something,) and I rarely see people in the voice channels. Text chat. However, people use it just to talk about the game. A lot of new people come in with questions that they don't want to ask here on the forum as well.
pShootr Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 I agree, It would be nice to see one teamspeak/Discord channel that hosts it all... Give privileges to the ones who are in command so to speak.. control private rooms, create squad channels.. TAW could have its own section (pass-worded too) So you could always find people and newbies would have a place to grow and you can see where the momentum is. ww2 online does this well with their discord channel, each squad has its own channel.. this way squads can team up for special ops... Imagine.. if you had 10 people that wanted to do a bomb run.. go recruit some escorts. Only thing is, with ww2 online, people generally play only one side for a whole map which can last for a month... One teamspeax/Discord for Axis and one for Russian, with many sub squad rooms... this way.. if your the only one in your squad you can easily just jump over to anther.. Hey guys Mind if I fly with you.... Who turn down an extras wing man....ok maybe me only because I am new to IL2... in VR which is off the hook rad BTW
Sky_Wolf Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 pShootr, the solution to your problems is to join the once-a-week mission on Friday Night Bomber Flights (includes fighters, ground attack aircraft, not just bombers). Coordination is much better than in TAW and everyone is on TS. Sign up is here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/23544-friday-night-bomber-flight-topic/page-56?do=findComment&comment=540195
