Sim Startup issue,FW-190 Tail Lock Issue among others...

Hello, Sorry this is lengthy...

I am new to the IL world however I may state that I am to say the least, a very experienced Flight simmer and pilot. I say this in order to avoid the 99% of forum users who default to the usual "Your just new", "noob" and other useless comments. I have encountered quite a few bugs issues;

I do own the Steam version BOS BOM (I am windows 10, intel i7, Nvidia G940mx Laptop that runs the sim great with all but one graphics maxed out)

-  Now first when I click on my desktop icon I immediately get stuck on the IL loading screen in full screen, however if I Ctl alt delete that brings me to the login page. This is the only way I can get into the sim, click icon, get full screen, then ctl alt delete to get the login screen to popup. Any thoughts?

- FW 190 does not let me tail lock but the sim auto tail locks randomly. I do not know if this is one of the many "Features" (eye roll) or some kind of German invention I am not aware of. However it is a pilot killer.

- On a side note to #2 I find that most aircraft have extreme takeoff issues when loaded with any bomb load...The Ju 87 cannot liftoff without going off runway, the 190 spins absurdly at speeds lower than a cyclist, etc. Honestly I probably get a 1 out of 5 rate of successful liftoffs when fully loaded. Even lowering fuel does not help. Precise power management and extending flaps later in the takeoff does not help. It just seems a little too sensitive for planes that have been flown successfully by children during war time. Also find it odd that the AI has 0 problems with this.

- I am sorry to say that I find the control schemes horrendous, the lack of a clickable cockpit causes glitches and the auto features with 2 realism settings are head scratchers.

      a. If I takeoff and accidently hit E and control surfaces get turned off (instrument panel, aim sight electronics turn off) THERE IS NO WAY TO TURN THEM BACK ON! Hitting E just turns on the magnetos and engine but all other power is off. There are no control assignments to manually bring the cockpit back to life so you have a dead aircraft.

      b. I think I have finally understood that shift N will stop my throttles from reducing on takeoff and powering up on landing, but seriously the auto features have been a nightmare for me. It also makes it frustrating when there are only 2 simplistic realism settings. Seriously that auto throttle feels like a practical joke from the developers.

All in all the auto features seem like something to help new pilots but I kinda feel like they actually cause more work. You spend a ton of time having to figure out what auto features are crippling you, then how to disable them/enable them instead of just getting in the plane, screwing up a few times learning your lesson and moving on. Its also SUPER IRONIC that the sim gets into details about minutia engine management but then has a cockpit that cannot be turned on if its powered off. I love clickable cockpits, I am willing to fly without, but critical assignments are missing if you accidently power down.

In this day and age of no physical manuals and just turn on and play like a video game, it would be awesome to have each plane have a tutorial mission with simple yet descriptive popups that tell you do this or that, ie proper engine cooling method or what have you.

- Lastly I have had cases where an aileron has been shot off, or even more serious damage and I noticed no difference in flight, specifically the 109 G I believe.

I know its a lot, but I needed to put it out there and hopefully get some answers. I am not hating on the sim, actually I wouldn't even bother writing this if I didn't think it was worthwhile. I would have just moved on or pop in MSCFS 3. I feel there is a lot of work put into IL and it shows I just need to iron out some of these issues.

Well most of your Fw ground handling and take off issues are due to the fact that the tail wheel is locked by having the control stick fully aft - as is historically correct. There is no key binding for that on this AC.

As an aside, don't be surprised when you get hammered for your comparisons to other sims, features which will not be implemented in this one and your overall tone is somewhat on the ranting side. It's coming, just be prepared.

I don't think you are sorry at all about your wall of concerns (complaining). As a first post you come across very poorly indeed. You are basically ignorant about IL2 and its' current flight model. Your Fw-190 comment... ie (eye roll) about the tail wheel reveals that.

I've seen many others take off in the Ju-87 will large bomb loads. Though it is challenging, it should be and there is nothing wrong there. That situation you claim to have experience is more likely due to a lack skill on your part. Probably the same reason for your ground handling difficulties.

You love clickable cockpits.. fine... go play DCS and please spare us your uninformed complaints here.

Actually, I've decided it is a waste of my time to respond to your tome further.

I think you should disable the auto help features in the quick mission settings so you don't have them at all (Expert setting or Custom tab unchecking those boxes), with this you won't be in need to find the key function to disable them in flight.

For some planes that struggle a bit to get off the ground I recommend pressing the stick down so you can lift the tail while running on the runway (be carefull not to nose over though), and then keep gaining speed that way, the plane will present a much smaller angle of attack to the incoming airflow and thus have way less drag than just keep running with all 3 whells on the ground, I usually go up to around 200 km/h before pulling up in most planes (from heavy loaded IL-2s to light fighters) that speed usually guarantees a good takeoff.

You should read the technical specification tab in the mission parameters before starting (or in the in game map while in game, or here in the forums https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/25993-aircraft-flight-and-technical-specifications-and-operational/ ) specially to learn about different engine settings, particularly planes with adjustable RPM like the Stuka, He 111, Ju 88 and all of the Russian planes, to operate them properly, bearing in mind the time limits of take-off, emergency and combat settings of the different engines.

Firstly

All Bombers
in IL2 - BoX Given correct settings and procedures can take off easily
with Max Bombload and Fuel Loads (aka MTOW)
- Correct Power Settings,
- Correct Flap Settings,
- Correct Trim Settings,
- Correct Rotation/Take Off Speeds.
- Taking Off into the wind and not default spawn direction.

(Ju87 will take off fine with 1,800KG bomb and 80% Fuel Load in only 1400meters
(most runways ingame 1,500-2,200meters) not sure where i got that number in my head i mean 1,000-1,500meters)
- POINT PLANE INTO THE WIND
- Simply Lower first stage flaps
- Set + 25% Elevator Trim
- Apply Full Power
@ 110kph Lower Nose Level with horizon.
@ 175kph Gently ease of the pressure holding nose lvl and rotate
@ Positive rate of climb Allow to accel to 250 kph then continue climb @ 2400rpm @ 1.3ata @ 260kph.

The airfields in BOS have two lengths, around 1050m and around 1550m. With heavy bombload you should definitely take one of the longer runways.

To find out the lenghts of the runways you can take a look in the 3rd Party apps section, in the thread 'Bos Airfields Reference'.

And maybe it might be a good idea, to simply start with small bombloads and then get more, when you are ok with it.

Yeah i edited my above post Yogi.. lmao i dunno where i got 1500-2200m in my head i have looked at bos_airifields reference so many times :D

Also OP just Reduce fuel load more when carrying more bombload and rotate later..

Cannons and or 37m pods = 50%(40% better if range ok) Max fuel most WoL Sorties.
1T bomb = 35%(25% better is range ok) Max fuel most WoL Sorties.
1.8T bomb = 25%(15% better is range ok) Max fuel most WoL Sorties.

Taking off with 100% Fuel and 1.8T Bomb on a shortish runway is never going to end well without correct flap management and transition from take off to actual flying.
