Voidhunger Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Hi guys, I was wondering if it´s possible to hear in the cockpit impacts of the machine and cannon guns on the wings and fuselage? I suppose that some shaking from the impacts is felt but I´m not sure about the sounds.
ll./JG77_JadeBandit Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I don't know if they have put that in yet, It was kinda hard to tell though last session due to how loud the engine and air buffeting are. I think I read somewhere in these forums though that it hasn't been implemented just yet, but I could be wrong.
Finkeren Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 (edited) I actually think it's the other way around. I think you'd feel very little - if anything at all. In any case the force felt will certainly be less than what is felt from firing your own guns (simple Newtonean mechanics) On the other hand, sound of exploding 20mm shells and bullet impacts close to the cockpit migh well be heard over the engine noise. Sure, if a bullet is stopped by your seat or headrest, or an explosive shell bursts in your wing, that would be felt, but normal MG bullets striking the aircraft? I don't think so. Sim Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 (edited) I was wondering if it´s possible to hear in the cockpit impacts of the machine and cannon guns on the wings and fuselage? From today's changelog (I think this is related) New hit sounds added Edited December 13, 2013 by Sim
OBT-Psycho Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I remember a pilot writing that he was under fire of an other airplane, and when the bullets hit the armorplate behind him it was like somebody threw a handful of gravel on a metal sheet, and it was pretty loud. so this should be true for any canon shell though, as vibrations will go through the whole airplane, but I don't know if I want that in a sims. there is already so much information to be processed by eyes and hears, that it could be suddently too much to handle. I think it should be noticable, ahd you should hear it, but it should not be loud as hell 1
Mogster Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I'd imagine if bullets were hitting the back of your seat armour you'd hear and feel it. Hitting the wings I'd imagine not.
von_Tom Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 First hit of cannon using HSFX and I felt like I was in combat. It was a good though unwelcome experience! Hood
Georgio Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Given the vibration and noise from the engine I would imagine that you probably wouldn't hear bullet impacts at all except from the cockpit side, cannons blowing chunks off probably would be noticed though by then it's too late. Probably your best indication of impending doom would be tracers flying by the cockpit which I've had the pleasure of more than a few times in CLoD... :D
Sternjaeger Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 (edited) cockpits are LOUD places to be, even when you wear modern headsets: you have a big 1500+ HP beast of an engine roaring in front of you, with plain short exhaust stacks that do not reduce sound, a large propeller slicing air 10ft from your nose and aerodynamic noise. You'll hear other stuff, but not distinctly. In my experience you can hear another aircraft near you (only if it's louder), but again it's a matter of frequencies as well. I talked to vets and asked about the sounds they could hear, and they all confirmed you could head the thud-thud-thud of guns, flak and even being hit would actually make quite the noise, again it depended of what sort of calibre would hit you and where. It would be good to have sounds that change according to your engine noise: machine-gun fire will sound one way when your engine is idle or off as opposed to when you're giving it throttle. One of the thing I find you miss most when it comes to noise in simulator is the "noise feel": vibration from the engine is quite distinctive, and whilst vibration is visually present now, it's something that in real life is present throughout your flight. FuriousMeow Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I just picked up a Buttkicker, and it adds a lot of that sensation - the constant vibration bit. Never thought it would actually be worth the money or that it would add anything, but it definitely does.
Sternjaeger Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 mmmh I didn't think much of it either, but I guess that might be quite a good way to simulate that, yes. Does it also thump?
FuriousMeow Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Yeah, it does it all. It took a bit of tweaking the unit's settings, I eventually found the recommended settings for "game" in the instructions (who reads those first?) and those turned out to be exactly what I needed, and I had to change inputs. For some reason I was only getting center channel with one of the black RCA from the splitter plugged in and was just disappointing. I immediately regretted the purchase, but for some reason when I put the red RCA in, it was coming from center and sub - and at that point I went from "damn it" to "oh hell yes this is awesome!" You'll get the vibration from the engine, and thumps when you unload with your guns, and when flak is going on. It can be adjusted to how much it hits too, so you can have it fairly tame or really kicking you in the butt.
Sternjaeger Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 (edited) nice! Does it also reproduce the thumps and bumps when you taxi on the ground? Edited December 13, 2013 by Sternjaeger
FuriousMeow Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Unfortunately not so much right now. It does if it produces a bass sound, but that depends on the audio. Unfortunately it's entirely tied to bass levels, which is nice in a way because you can set it to a range and it'll thump/rattle/shake/bump/kick based on that - but it can't be programmed directly for less audible items. So it's a tradeoff, but from what I've gotten out of it so far it's still pretty nice.
racingslippers Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 (edited) Theres simvibe to run bass-transducers (like Buttkickers) from physics, if the devs want to talk to them. Ive got four Buttkickers I used to use in iRacing (before Assetto Corsa came out) I would quite like to make use of. http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/1454-sim-vibe/ http://simxperience.com/en-us/products/simvibe/simvibesoftware.aspx Edited December 13, 2013 by Mayfields
FuriousMeow Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 (edited) Actually, correction Sternjaeger - there is a rumble from the landing gear. It's not noticeable when the cockpit of the LaGG is open and taking off, but on landing with the cockpit closed and the throttle reduced - there is a definite rumble in the seat of my chair and it disappears when the wheels are off the ground. So there is indeed a rumble there as you go across the tarmac. Edited December 14, 2013 by FuriousMeow 1
