Bombzey Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Been thinking of getting a superwide monitor at 3440x1440 but not sure how it would look for IL2? I'm currently flying on a 2560x1440 and wondered if the screen just gets stretched to fit or do you get a different FOV? Anyone with some comparison pics? Cheers,
jokerBR Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Flying on a 34uc79g 2560x1080 ultrawide and everything looks perfectly fine here. Go ahead, You'll just need a beefier gfx card do move all the pixels. Cheers.
LLv24_Zami Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 I`m playing with 34 inch Dell using 3440x1440 resolution. I haven`t noticed any stretching, it looks great.
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 (edited) All UW 21:9 monitors do stretch objects on the sides when you move from left to center and back - tested in BOS, ROF and CLOD it's a simple fact. Easy way to test it - just look at plane spawned on the side and move screen to the center. You will see in the middle of movment the wrong proportion of object (plane) and then it just back to normal when you center view. Any way it's great to have extra fov and i love it (user of acer predator x34). Edited July 20, 2017 by 307_Tomcat
manitouguy Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 (edited) Mine doesn't stretch - gives the extra fov real estate nicely on those programs as best I can tell Edited July 20, 2017 by manitouguy

1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Look at the wings and do the same to compare
Bombzey Posted July 24, 2017 Author Posted July 24, 2017 Just out of interest does IL-2 support the 21.9 format?
von_Tom Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Look at the wings and do the same to compare BOS stretches on all monitors, just not as obviously when it isn't an UW. But, set your view so that you are as far back in the seat as in that video and everything will look weird. von Tom
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 (edited) That true but on that type more visible. Siting far back you see more in front but I zoom out to max to. Just out of interest does IL-2 support the 21.9 format?Yes Edited July 24, 2017 by 307_Tomcat
jokerBR Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 (edited) Like von Tom said, every monitor does this, because sims are pivoting your view around a single point, instead of moving it through an arc, like your real eyes do IRL. That's also why you suffer from the fish eye effect (way more pronounced) when you zoom things out like the video above. If you fly in the "normal" position, you barely notice the effect, but yes, it is present in all monitors. That being said, for those in doubt, I think that after using an ultrawide, I bet you'll never look back. Cheers. Edited July 24, 2017 by jokerBR
SvAF/F16_Goblin Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 I'm using a Acer X34 Predator G-Sync monitor and I have everything set at ULTRA. Excellent FPS and resolution 3440x1440. You will not notice any warping as in the video above, that is taken zoomed out.
