Herne Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Is this possible ? VR users tend to take a bit of a FPS hit with the HUD on. So I'd like to learn to fly exclusively without it in multiplayer which I've recently started doing. The problem is, that you lose the chat window. I'd like to be able to ditch all of the technobabble anyway, because it forces me to check my instruments and monitor engine to make sure I'm not overstressing. I find it more immersive, but I would like to be able to follow the chat to see what my team is up to.
Jade_Monkey Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 (edited) I think you can turn off technochat off in the settings menu. Edited July 20, 2017 by Jade_Monkey
Herne Posted July 20, 2017 Author Posted July 20, 2017 I think you can turn off technochat off in the settings menu. I'll look for it when I get home, TY
Yogiflight Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 But then HUD is still on and you will still have lower FPS, and as I understood, this was your reason to ask for the separation of the chat.

Ah Ok. I think I'll still try and switch of the technobabble though. And then press the icon key to remove the compass, which hopefully should just leave me with the chat window.

Yep and that HUD when using VR is a real performance killer for sure. IF they could enable Techno Chat without the HUD being active probably would be better for VR performance. Maybe. For instance the bomb and rocket aiming help toggle. In a previous version, 2.008 and maybe 2.009, one could toggle those on without the HUD being active. And in VR, there was 0 performance hit using those aiming markers with the HUD not being active. Now however for some reason in an update, they have tied it to only working with the HUD being active, and blammo VR performance went into the hole now when one wants to use them. Course I may be the only one in here that actually wants to use those aiming helpers lol. So for me flying in VR, I now try and choose only air-air combat missions for this reason. =TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 The new Hud is a huge performance hit regardless of VR or not..It used to be same rendered element as game and no impact also map was a lot faster.
=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 I'm enjoying NOT having techno chat. Don't care if that doesn't come back nor the HUD compass. Virtual piloting feels better without them. Chat I miss, as well as the subtitles.
Herne Posted July 20, 2017 Author Posted July 20, 2017 Thanks for the tip on the settings, configured everything so that by default all I get is chat. Perfect TY. 1
71st_AH_Vertigo Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Thanks for the tip on the settings, configured everything so that by default all I get is chat. Perfect TY. Just wondering, did it still affect your frame rates in any way, or is it as if HUD is completely disabled
Herne Posted July 20, 2017 Author Posted July 20, 2017 Just wondering, did it still affect your frame rates in any way, or is it as if HUD is completely disabled I'm really not sure, while flying towards friendly tanks to give cover I did notice that the gun site wasn't flickering, where as it usually does
xThrottle_Geek Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 I would like to see the chat feature be functional while in other views. While viewing the map for example and possibly the loadout screen. 1
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 as above yes please..Or chat as a seperate box that can be brought up and scroll in chat history.
MadisonV44 Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Chat is polluting most of the online sorties (I'm not speaking of the FPS impact there). If you are already connected with your mates on TS no need bear the silly things you see on chats. It is also visually much more immersive without it. Activate it or not is not rocket science for the devs and should be introduced as an option.
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 Tho without better voice chat enforcement .Test chat is need to co-ordinate missions, Its not WT where all fighters take off and head for nearest furball in a tactic less headon assault. But IL2 requires fighters to mostly cover bombers and co-ordinate with them clearing aaa and ground pounding dog fighting is secondary objective on most servers or on those like WoL its not an objective at all but infact a distraction from the mission that makes LW loose so many games.
