Ideas for Multiplayer and more

Ok, bit of a green horn with this in MP but veteran of old Il2.  Been flying TAW and Finnish Server and I have a couple of thoughts which I wonder about with Multiplay.

1. AI flights in MP but led by a human player.

For this, the player would be the flight leader and command a few AI aircraft on MP mission objectives.  Even though servers have up to 64 players on BoS MP Maps, the air space and war seems sparsely populated and it would be nice to see flights of Finger Four German fighters or Vic 3 Russian fighters on CAP or seeing a flight of ground pounders accompanied by escort and seeing like a few of each per side in the air at the same time.  I would imagine given the numbers involved in the Eastern Front that there were quite a lot of assets involved especially during the time period covered from Moscow to Kurban whilst the West Air War was sleeping till the introduction of the US 8th Air Force in their Bombing campaigns.

2. The introduction of some form of flight planning and route marking for pilots when on the ground.  So they can initiate flight routes for the specific tasks they are thinking of doing, similar to how we see flight routes given in solo campaigns but with the players input into planning.  This would also help with navigation and AI flight pilots if implemented.

3. Maybe better radio command system implementation as well more akin to what was in the original Il2 series.  Especially helpful for co-coordinating AI flights and Ground Control directions although I do realise that early war Soviet Radio Systems were limited if existent at all )).

Just some thoughts for further development of BoS and derivatives.  Having a blast getting back into the saddle again with this generation of Il2.

Infantry and AI Infanty like DCS .

Rearm and refuel once you land in your Airfield.

Not sure why that was posted and I hope not AI like as displayed there, seems to be lacking a few qualities in the Intelligence department.  They got the spray and pray aspect down pat though.

Before 1. can be done, the load that AI puts on the server needs to be lightened significantly.

2. For now, you can use il2missionplanner.com.

3. I'd like this too.

oh man, i would love infantry like in DCS, finally stuka would make use of its MGs to strife them. It would look so epic on pacific, where americans are landing on island with japs defending it with mgs and arty. It would be so great :o:

I would love to be able to plot my mission out on the map in-game beforehand.

Now I just eyeball things and guestimate the heading.

1. Seems tricky, as Temuri notes

2. Brilliant idea. Markable maps would improve planning and coordination among multiplayer pilots.

3. Would be great to have air traffic control, but seems like a lot of work.

blitze, if you want multiplayer coordination I suggest signing up for this week's Friday Night Bomber Flights. There is no better IL-2 multiplayer experience in terms of immersion and coordination.

Outside of naval operations, ATC in WW2 was pretty one dimensional.

- if the field is clear = clear to land

- traffic on the runway = go around

BoX has AAA crew running away when you strafe them

i think EAW in the late 90 had people who run away when you strafed them

The original IL2 had guys who ran when you strafed vehicles...you might have been too busy freebasing Drano to notice.

I don't think this has been mentioned yet:

They are planning on implementing a flight planner when the new campaign mechanics are released in October.  So there ya go!
