Nibbio Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 (edited) ..is surprisingly good, actually in my view superior to the implementation of IL2 BOS, although also very good. If you want you can even use snap views coupled with VR tracking, so checking six is not a problem anymore. I'm not an expert on FM, but the planes have very distinctive characteristics and are a real joy to fly. Of course there is no real engine management, and the graphics are simple; OTOH everything is butter smooth at 90 fps with the Oculus Rift, even on my ancient system. The simple graphics also have the advantage of much greater clarity, compared to IL2 BOS. I would suggest VR pilots to download it and try it offline. It's only 1.5 Gb and it's free. Setting up the axis for your hotas and main controls is a breeze. I'm seriously considering signing up again, and going back to Aces High after almost 10 years :-) p.s. if you try it out offline don't forget to activate the "drones" for target practice. The damage model looks much improved, it seems even more detailed than BOS. Edited July 17, 2017 by Nibbio

I really hope snap views in VR are a thing of the past and if not they stay clearly in the realm of a server side difficulty option (at least for the IL2 series).

Well, let's just say that I don't like flying while sitting in a swivel chair :-)
=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 Neither do I, I packed my swivel chair away so I didn't cheat myself out of the experience of having to turn around my head and upper body. Over the last few months of flying VR in BOS and having to work to check my six, the experience has been rewarding. Have I been shot down because checking my six is hard work and I didn't do it as frequently as I would with TrackIR or a snap view? Hell Yeah. And each time it's a reminder of how lucky I am to get a refly button presented to me. Do I need this game 'assist' on to be successful in multiplayer combat. Nope. Does pilots being able to check six with the push of a button negatively change some aspects of virtual combat? I think so.
Nibbio Posted July 17, 2017 Author Posted July 17, 2017 You may be right, but I get enough punishment from daily workouts, and view flight simming as an intellectual rather than a physical pursuit. Different strokes for different folks and all that.
