Thad Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 Salutations, I have been looking into upgrading my flight sim equipment. Flight Stick, Throttle and wanting a set of quality rudder pedals. Going to vent. From what I have found on the internet, thusfar... there are many quality 'metal' flight controllers being created and sold from Europe. Where are the quality metal controllers made and sold in the Americas? All we seem to have from the Americas are plastic cheap looking toys. For example.... Thrustmaster recently released a set of rudders for their FCS. The pedals are basically plastic and the pedals are very close together. An example for my frustration. For 'years' simmers have complained about the CH rudders being to close together for comfort... yet Thrustmaster has presented us with rudder pedals that are even 'closer together'. Didn't they do ANY pre-production research before creating their FCS rudders? Obviously not. I have nothing against the European made products offered. They seem to be of great quality and made with 'metal' but ordering from there can be problematic. I am a bit frustrated and ashamed of most of the crap the Americas are putting out in this regard.
Sokol1 Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 (edited) Thrustmaster is not "America" anymore at long time, is French - and "made in China". CH Products is "Made in USA" - butt still the same products of XX century. Both don't fit in this "Quality Metal" - Warthog has only grip shells in (pottery) metal. So, like for flight games, look for East made. Edited July 16, 2017 by Sokol1
Thad Posted July 16, 2017 Author Posted July 16, 2017 Yes, I'm afraid so. There are indeed many quality products being created in Europe.

I will take that pottery metal grip of the Warthog over a plastic grip any day. Just something about wrapping my hand around metal rather than plastic, just feels so much better to me. Before too much longer though I will likely be changing to the Gunfighter with the new MCG Pro grip, or maybe even the Virpil offering so guess I will be getting used to it. I really wish VKB would offer a metal version of their grip as well. Seems like it would make sense, that nice metal gimbal system then throwing a plastic grip on top of it, metal would be so much better. I am sure main reason is cost though. I know the metal grip would not really add anything as far as durability or functionality, but it is nice to have just for the feel imho. Edited July 16, 2017 by dburne

VR-DriftaholiC Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 (edited) I've ordered from SLAW Devices, Paid via PayPal and he shipped from Croatia I think. It was painless and easy, shipped promptly and was packaged well. There were no hidden or import fees. I don't really see the problem. Buy the best product for your needs regardless of origin. Anything else could be considered racist or nationalist Edited July 17, 2017 by driftaholic
Retnek Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 ... Buy the best product for your needs regardless of origin ... That's what I expected to hear from the motherland of capitalism, but somehow things changed ... Lucky those who have no joystick-factory in their country producing second rated stuff. We're free to use the best stuff available.
Jade_Monkey Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 I'm not sure there are any good metal throttles out there. Everyone and their mom is making metal PRO aviator, military grade sticks and zero throttles. They all say "in the near future" but I have yet to see a real product.
Sokol1 Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 GLV224 THROTTES is in metal where's matter: levers, ball bearings, ball bearings support.

Sokol1 Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 (edited) GLV224 THROTTES is in metal where's matter: levers, ball bearings, ball bearings support. And don't forget Kanttori METAL box throttles with GLV224 METAL mechanics, and most important optimized for WWII planes, with levers and rotaries instead HAT's and slew's like all those "jet/spaceship" throttles released in last 20 years by joystick industry. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/28738-metal-throttle-consoles/page-2 Edited July 18, 2017 by Sokol1
