NETSCAPE Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 I'm wanting to pin-point a date when I should switch from using the autumn map to the winter map. I have some references of "the rain turned to snow" on Nov 19th specifically, but other information seems to contradict this. Of course just because it snows on a day doesn't mean that all of the snow stays or "sticks". thanks to BlackSix here are the dates in relation to the BOS chapters (was useful for frontline data): BOS, part 1: Chapter 1 - 23.08.42 - 29.08.42 (DD.MM.YY) Chapter 2 - 30.08.42 - 12.09.42 Chapter 3 - 13.09.42 - 12.11.42 BOS, part 2: Chapter 1 - 13.11.42 - 18.11.42 Chapter 2 - 19.11.42 - 25.11.42 Chapter 3 - 26.11.42 - 11.12.42 Chapter 4 - 12.12.42 - 09.01.43 As you can see the developers have a snow covered landscape starting on nov 13. Can anyone confirm a date either by reputable written source or photo? It seems hard for me to believe random dates attributed to some photos I find online... I have missions set for dates of Nov 11,17, 20, 23. (subject to change) I imagine that range of dates should include the BoS map transition from Autumn to Winter thanks for any help.
unreasonable Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 (edited) Some details on daily minimum temps in 1942 S. Russia here: http://www.ocean-climate-law.com/13/Arch/12_8.html Also some daily weather notes reported in this thread https://forum.axishistory.com//viewtopic.php?t=71938 Overall it looks as though it might not have snowed until end of November, and even then not stayed on the ground every day. Unfortunately the detail here is mostly for December. Edited July 16, 2017 by unreasonable
707shap_Srbin Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 It was discussed in 2012 in Rusian part of forum. Last week of November snow had covered Stalingrad area.
1CGS BlackSix Posted July 16, 2017 1CGS Posted July 16, 2017 I spent a very long time studying this issue and chose the date of November 13, 1942 for the career. The ice began to appear on Volga on November 13, the first snow fell about November 11-13. November 19, when the Soviet offensive began, there was already a continuous snow cover. 2
