few questions about the Spitty

first of all, let me just say: BRAVO!  the spitfire is truly a masterpiece! - what a fantastic piece of work it is!  congratulations to devs!

but a few things have struck my curiosity a bit - so don't mind me ask:

how come does the trim indicator point's half way up when it's neutral? - according to the manual, takeoff trim is "one notch down" (from neutral) - this is supposed to be one step down from the center of the gauge...

which is just how it behaves in CloD, A2A, and basically any other spitfire simulations I've seen - sure enough the real gauge must also read neutral in the middle too...

of course, the trim mechanism on the spit does have a smaller range for "up" than it does for "down" - and this is probably the reason our indicator reads the way it does...

but AFAIK, it should nevertheless indicate neutral trim with the needle set in the center of the gauge, and it would move slightly faster between top and zero than it does from zero to the bottom, due to the trim range difference either way

anyways - of course, it's not a big deal... but it's somewhat eccentric that it points half-up at neutral like that....

another thing is - is there any reason why the boost cut-out lock thingy doesn't operate?  it's kinda unsettling how easily the throttle can be manhandled past the "wire" (there used to be a thin wire there which the lever would cut as it passed. if not intact after a flight, this would prompt the ground crew to carefully inspect the engine)

but here we not only have no wire -- the red boost gate flippy-thingy that's supposed to act as a safety doesn't really stop the lever going through either (even though it could be pushed open by shoving it forward, with some extra force)

so basically, our boost gate is always open.... yet oddly enough, we see it modelled as if in the closed position...

besides the oddity - without technochat, that does make it difficult to tell when you have or not entered the "red zone" - a rather important piece of intel,  but which then can only be known by checking the boost gauge, in a way that one may not have the full convenience of doing in the heat of battle...

with the boost gate closed, one would expect to get full combat power by having the (joystick) throttle at the detent, and need to flip it open for "full blast" - this gives the pilot crucial touch feedback for throttle operation, instead of having to take his eyes off the enemy to look...

A search of Gavrick's recent posts will answer your first question.

It does work. Gavrick said he'll maybe give the current implementation some more love, but in another thread I wrote up how it works.

yeah, turns out my joystick had broken (dammit Saitek!!) and the button which used to activate it no longer works due to wires which run loose among sharp rack-and-pinion gear teeth within the throttle base...

that led me to conclude that the boost gate wasn't modelled, due to a combination with my instinctive reaction from CloD to read 12" on the gauge and think "better not leave it there long"

I was both very excited and kinda embarrassed when I noticed this over a moment of:  "OMG! it goes up to 16!!   weeeeeee!!"

Welcome to the sad league of gentlemen soldering their Saitek.
