I was very confident the G2 would be ok against the Spittys. I guessed wrong. Moach handed me my ass in handbasket. The Spit is NASTY.....hands down. I need to rethink how engage them from now on.

You might want to change that thread title before the mods see it.

Try opening the throttle a bit more.....

2600 rpm and he can't do anything, if you try to fight someone on 2300 rpm it's no miracle... ;)

One should believe a frontal attack would be favourable for a BF 109, but that depends actually you aiming and shoot :)

You had the E advantage early on so use it with diving attacks it to rattle him to turn and burn his energy to evade.  You can keep the attacks modest by not turning as much and letting him think that he is out maneuvering you with his defense all the while eating away his E.  He will either disengage and dive down or keep turning into a poor E shape for you to settle in on him.

That's the beauty, it's all a learning experience. For me, I was just shocked to see the Spit's hi alt performance. Either way, good fun and good fight. I'm by no means an "ace" and I don't mind sharing my follies along with my victories. I learn in every flight, and I hope my videos help others learn as well. This is supposed to be fun right!? Well, I had fun getting my ass kicked in this engagement.

Nice to see videos when things are not going as planned for a change  :salute:  Spitfire guns are lethal

funny how it looks on the "other side" of things... from my view it seemed I had started firing well ahead of what it looks like here - and it wasn't a single shot either, but more of a one second burst in front of the target

curious, really - on my view, I was still substantially more in line with his flight path when "opened up the hose" in front of him, and I could see a round impact right before the 109 went under my nose a split second afterwards... I then looked back and saw his wing going in a separate direction

that's how it went on my side, which alas I did not record...

very interesting to see how even a (relatively) small latency can cause very different apparent results. this turned out as very flattering for myself in this particular occasion, whereas my "real" shot was not really quite as impressive

another curious fact - I wasn't actually catching up to the 109 at all, at that point where he extended out I was only half-committed to the fight, and more waiting for the right time to turn tail and make myself scarce... luckily for me, he came back around - so I made the most of it  ;)

then of course... I got busy typing "thanks" and neglected that I had the plane on a powered dive as I did so... my wing apparently took offense at that and abruptly parted ways in protest - the remainder of the flight was conducted by parachute, a much less glamorous form of transport than was the spitfire

that makes me wonder if perhaps typing while flying is not actually totally safe....

People can critique my flying all they want. That's why I posted this. It's about learning to do things differently and hearing advice/opinions. Like I said, I'm no ace and claim no fame. It's all fun to me win or lose. On the point of keeping speed and rpm up, I guess I'm overly paranoid of cooking my engine. I'm slowly getting over this complex of mine. Moreover, I just hope some folks get some enjoyment out of my awkward videos. I know I enjoy watching the exploits of others online shenanigans, I hope people enjoy mine as well. I'm just not ashamed to post when I'm a total failure. :-)

your flying was fine - I would not even critique...

plus, I'm also totally paranoid about them "timers" and "recovery times" -- except that for realism/masochism purposes, I do not allow hints to inform me of when my engine has "recovered" - since there is no such thing in a real plane and that whole premise is really out of place in a simulator such as this... I instinctively monitor my gauges for signs of engine problems - though they don't really serve that purpose well at all as of now - and I refuse to enable the "magic compass" hud which grants unwarranted directional awareness. (if I wanted an HMD, I'd fly an F/A-22, not a Spitfire)...

this causes me oft-recurring cases of "spontaneously separating tail section and large jagged holes which have nothing to do with the muzzle-flashing 109 right behind me"

anyways, for all I knew (and kinda expected rly) it would just as easily be my butt under the "silken dome of shame" - except that I got lucky that you turned back around and hesitated from that head-on pass just long enough for one good burst with a golden bullet in it

of course, it wasn't very long before the universe realized it's mistake and equalized the mathematics by having my plane reduced a wing in span (which may or not have totally have been my fault, though I insist: t'was aliens! and the gumn'mint!)

turns out, half a spitfire doesn't really fly as well as a whole plane that's half as good as a spitty... it's more like a quarter or so...

and man, I'm really starting to become glad of the ping factor over this shot... from my end it looked so very much more "pedestrian" (in a wonderful world where pedestrians have spitfires) - I wouldn't have even had thought it worth recording

on your end, it looked like a smite from the God Of Death From Above™ himself - I think I'm gonna start telling the story from YOUR point of view - It makes me seem a lot more awesome than old boring "reality"

Nothing makes a finer ace than a well told story

HA!  How funny, I just got shot down by a single shot through my cockpit in one of my very first online sessions by you tonight Moach!  I'm still really new and trying to gain my situational awareness, but as I dove toward an AA gun in my 109, I fired at it, and you fired at me.  One little bullet took me completely down.  You prolly dont remember it with all the kills you get! ;)

Either way, kind of neat.  All I did was browse the forums before bed and found a video of you doing what you do best.
