Kling Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Server maintainance has so far almost always meant that a patch is coming out that day. This thread is just to inform you about this! I know its the wrong forum but my thinking is that the more players who try ROF out the more money777 will get for the development of BOS. So the thought is good! Sorry Bearcat!
ST_Catchov Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 ALRIGHT! LETS' ROCK BABY! But what if it is just maintenance.
Kling Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 ALRIGHT! LETS' ROCK BABY! But what if it is just maintenance. haha Priceless!!

LG1.Farber Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Do you have to buy the new map to play it?
AndyJWest Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Downloading - but I've got to go out. Never mind, I'll be back soon to test Felix the Catalina-ancestor. Start engines! Weigh Anchor! Man the Guns! Set course for Zeebrugge! Full steam ahead! Sorry, I'm getting a bit carried away there....
ATAG_Slipstream Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Do you have to buy the new map to play it? Looks like it. It does look good though! Cost me about ? 1
DD_Arthur Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Do you have to buy the new map to play it? No, you can fly it from several points on the existing map. It can be purchased seperately from the channel map.
Zmaj76 Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 (edited) No, you can fly it from several points on the existing map. It can be purchased seperately from the channel map. He was asking if he must pay for teh new map so he can play mission with the new map. Answer is no, ofcourse. Edited December 24, 2012 by Tvrdi
DD_fruitbat Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 (edited) Its downloading as i type....... Can't be bothered with the Felix personally though, but he map a very big yes, pre-ordered a while ago! Edited December 24, 2012 by fruitbat

I know its the wrong forum but my thinking is that the more players who try ROF out the more money777 will get for the development of BOS. So the thought is good! Sorry Bearcat! No worries. As I have continually said it is not the mention but the rancor that will get me heated and this is indirectly related to BoS anyway. As has been stated.. the more folks who try RoF the greater the chance that some will like it or at the very least have their opinions reassured about BoS. The more support the Devs get the better off we will be.
ATAG_Slipstream Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Major sale going on currently as well, with 50% off (not pre orders or newer stuff) so now is a good time to grab some planes!
Skoshi_Tiger Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 791Mb - leave this going over night. Merry Christmas everyone!
Revvin Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Fantastic news, 777 Studio's really support their products, it bodes well for the future of IL-2

And please, try to heed what Blacksix and Loft asked for in their latest developer diary and stop doing the broken-record routine. Stop moaning and moaning and moaning about the same stuff over and over again. They heard you, now give it a rest in stead of spamming the forum with this... Edited December 24, 2012 by Freycinet 1

Logan Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 I got it all but the pre orders and the map..but the 50% sale is good for those who need to add to your hanger! Oh and the update did re set all my video and sound settings but saved my controls, so no big deal.
Bearcat Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 If the model for BoS will be like this I think this is a win win.. The devs get a steady or relatively steady income stream and wqe get to cherry pick our content.

Stop moaning and moaning and moaning about the same stuff over and over again. They heard you, now give it a rest in stead of spamming the forum with this... They hear what brings the bucks. And that is offliners who wants more planes (FM innacuracies irrelevant)...they are majority of their customers. Then again...last few FM revisions we got in the heat of new planes production so it must be the decision of management to stop revising the FMs.....odd at least... BUT theres is a small difference with BOS....the MP community would be much bigger as the WW2 genre is more popular and there they couldnt avoid critical FM revisions/fixes..... DD_fruitbat Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 (edited) quick little vid i made over the channel, the flyings rubbish, cause i'm rubbish at RoF, but it shows of Dover. Edited December 25, 2012 by fruitbat
Freycinet Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Fruitbat, got very dizzy from watching your dogfight (any RoF dogfight really!)... If you could just fly over Dover and the English countryside and towns it would be great...
Kling Posted December 25, 2012 Author Posted December 25, 2012 quick little vid i made over the channel, the flyings rubbish, cause i'm rubbish at RoF, but it shows of Dover. nice vid!
[KWN]T-oddball Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 (edited) Im sorry...but this has soured my mood again...when i first heard of the ROF business model i dubbed it rise of Pay per plane and never looked back even though ww1` was my first flight sim. Last year i hear they have 2 plane demo out...so i give it a go...not impressed mostly because of the anemic online scene . fast forward to 2 weeks ago i get an e-mail saying 777 has taken over the IL2 franchise...with a healthy level of skepticism i start trying RoF ..Again and so far so good...I bought the IC addition a great deal for $8, then i find this "ultimate" upgrade for $72 which i thought it would be ALL the air planes because it said "ULTIMATE" but it turned out that i already had half of the planes listed...which did not make much sense...$8 for 6 planes (2 came with demo) and then $72 for 8 more!? as of today they have dropped that price to $39..i guess i was not the only one to notice that. Next i went to the store and clicked "buy all" which came out to ...$143 i think :o It would have been over $160 if i did not have the IC addition already...I have no problem paying good money (i did waste $110 on BF3 ) but this game is over 3 years old and its pricing scheme should reflect that, I don't want every thing for $20 but your ULTIMATE upgrade should reflect the game as it is now...not the plane set from 2010.... and add to that now you want us to buy maps.... In a few days it will be 2013..IMHO your ULTIMATE upgrade should be $99 (or less) and include ALL content up to at least mid 2012. This is a business and profit is your primary motivation....but there are some things about you pricing model that just dont add up. Edited December 25, 2012 by thee_oddball
gavagai Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 (edited) Oddball, the ultime upgrade is not intended for someone who already has the Iron Cross planes. I don't even think you would be allowed to purchase it because the aircraft you own would overlap. Use the store page where you can buy what you want a la carte. There's a big sale right now, so aircraft don't cost very much. -------- Fruitbat, because the Camel is so fast, I find it better to work the throttle than the blip switch. That way you don't get the jerkiness as you regulate your airspeed. Also, blipping was notoriously bad for the engine. Pilots were instructed to do it as little as possible. I agree, but sometimes its fun to pretend your in a early Camel, that only had a blip switch i believe (correct me if i'm wrong), and didn't have a throttle at all. I don't really see the point of a blip switch when you have a throttle, but theres lots of things i don't see the point off, so.... Edited December 25, 2012 by fruitbat
gavagai Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 The 130hp Clerget Camel always had a throttle. Some Camels had a Gnome engine, which lacked a true throttle, like the Nieuport 28. My understanding is that the blip switch was for standing still before takeoff. Otherwise, a lot of the rotary powered scouts would begin to roll as soon as the engine was turned on.
DD_fruitbat Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 (edited) from wiki for whats its worth, VariantsCamels were powered by several rotary engines. 130 hp Clerget 9B Rotary (standard powerplant) 140 hp Clerget 9Bf Rotary 110 hp Le Rh????ne 9J Rotary 150 hp Bentley BR1 rotary (gave best performance ??? ATAG_Slipstream Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Anyway its good fun! In the Camel, yes, in the Albatros, not so much... 1
76SQN-FatherTed Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 In a few days it will be 2013..IMHO your ULTIMATE upgrade should be $99 (or less) and include ALL content up to at least mid 2012. This is a business and profit is your primary motivation....but there are some things about you pricing model that just dont add up. So add up the figures for me. Unlike you I've no experience of marketing a niche combat flightsim, so I don't know what pricing strategy is going to make it financially worthwhile for people to produce this sort of game. As a customer, I quite like to spend a bit of money here and there on the planes and/or mods that I want, rather than a big lump sum upfront. Sure, if I want, I could spend $140 in one go, but also I could spend $5 per plane as and when I want to (less if I wait for a sale). This strikes me as a reasonable way forward for both publisher and customer. The publisher doesn't have to commit lots of investment into one release which may or may not sell well, and the customer Isn't expected to shell out a big wodge on something which may or may not work.

This is a business and profit is your primary motivation....but there are some things about you pricing model that just dont add up. The same kind of argument is made for iRacing - an online racing sim where you buy cars and tracks individually for $10 - $15. Nowhere on the website or in the terms of conditions does it say you have to own all the content, buy what you like and leave the rest. Like iRacing, RoF offers some good discount for buying more than a few items at time and in the last six months has run two sales for its online store.
BlitzPig_EL Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 The new map is nice, but still dead feeling like the standard RoF map. The Felixstow is now my favorite plane in the sim... Made a run on a warship and it did evasive maneuvers... Very cool... Spotted a W 12 and had a little tussle with it. Be aware that this patch will change a bunch of settings. Didn't realize it lowered my AA, hence the jaggies.
FTC_Karaya Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 The new map and the Felix are both great although it seems that there are severe fps problems near the british coast. Flew with a squad mate on Syn last night and taking off from France in Halberstadts my fps was at 70 on average, once we were little over half way across the channel it dumped down to around 40, on our return flight once we were near the french coast it got up to 70fps again - very weird But having said that I did enjoy it a lot! After map change (still channel) we managed to sink a sub as well as a Felix in joint action on a single flight without getting murdered by flak, fighters or the likes. And I have to agree with Tvrdi on the FM revisions! I would very much like to finally see a patch that brought the german planeset up to more realistic performance, as it is they all lack 5-10% of their published topspeeds and climbrates, some are even using entirely wrong engines, etc. I hope they get the halberstadt D.II right - it would suck to get yet another crippled bird for central side 1
