von_Tom Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 Gents, I am hoping that as part of a house move I can very sneakily update my HOTAS without Mrs Von Tom finding out. My idea is to use my Warthog grip and throttle. The grip will go onto either a VKB extension (if it can) and base or a VPC base with extension. The base will then go onto a desktop by from VPC or MonsterTech. Does anyone have any experience of the pros and cons of each base and/or gimbals? I'll be going for a soft centre. Any opinions on this kind of setup are welcome. Von Tom ps. I'll also be trying to sneak in some Crosswinds too. My Saitek pedals still work fine but they grate.
Sokol1 Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 For now no one consumer receive VirPil (VPC) bases...

Couple things for consideration: Virpil - while sounding very promising, they have yet to deliver the bases. Already have seen a couple of significant delays and communication has not been great on them. I have a stick with base, extension kit, and desk mount on order with them and still waiting. They claim a small batch was sent out last week, however I have seen no evidence of anyone receiving them or tracking info on the forums I visit including their own. Latest word for those that pre-ordered, most will ship next week. I placed my order on April 15th. So currently no feedback from anyone that I have seen. The plus side to their base, is the Warthog stick can be attached with no modifications, just attach it and go. Uses the same connector type. VKB - Has been tried and is true, mostly all positive feedback on their gimbal design. Coming out with a new MCG grip that will have more buttons similar to a Warthog style grip. As far as using the Warthog grip, it can be done but not without some work. Some report no problems doing it, a few have said it was fairly problematic. Downside is they run in batches, so keep an eye out for when a new batch run might happen. However you might find a Gladiator Pro in stock somewhere. I have the Gunfighter, but am awaiting my extension kit that is in transit, and my Monster Tech table mount which has yet to ship. Plus I will likely wait until I can get the new MCG grip before I hook it up and start using it. I currently use an extended Warthog. At some point eventually, I will be trying them both out and then doing a review of both of them in comparison. Who knows when that might be though... Edited July 11, 2017 by dburne 1

This guy show very well what is need do for make Warthog grip compatible (mechanically, because is need install software profiles and maybe upgrade firmware) with VKB bases: BTW - The cat is not need. Irgendjemand Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 (edited) I have a full set of VPC gear on order and already received one of their grips.I have no doubt they'll deliver despite the delay they had. But hey. VKB also had delays.... On the quality of the grip all i can say is "flawless". Very well made product. Why i decided for the VPC base: It utilizes pressure springs and not tension springs (wich are much more prone to failure when used excessively - I talk from experience with the Cougar uber NXT 2 gimbal) and also makes a MUCH sturdier impression than the tiny VKB base.On VKB i like the clutch system. But since I am not a heli simpilot thats not really a feature ill be missing with the VPC.Also I am also a Star Citizen pilot. VPC offers the grip as left handed version. I ordered a RH one and a LH one and thus i have an awesome "both hands the same" setup for star citizen:) I would recommend waiting a few weeks longer until people received their VPC bases and write the first reviews. You can then make a well informed decision. Price on both is more or less the same AFAIK. Hope this helps. Edited July 12, 2017 by Irgendjemand 1
