Race Track?

Is it possible to make/build a mission with no combat just a race course , over this, under that, around something else. zselljr has made a spitfire redbull racing skin, I think it'd be a great way to really fly this beautiful plane down really, really low, no ammo, limited fuel as fast as possible around a course to time yourself.

 

is this even possible?

There used to be a stunt / race server but not seen it up in a very long time. Used to have massive pilons to race between so it is possible with the mission editor

I wonder how easy it is to set up a track. I used to use the old il2 mission editor and CLoD a bit, never tried BoX or RoF.

Two missions / the first is an old obstacle course around Stalingrad. First person to land in or near the end revetments wins.

Edit: you'll need to add the Spitfire to the fakefield at the start of the flight.

 

Our most successful races were where we all took off and circled behind the runway until somone shouted "Go". Then just follow the arrows and go through the hoops. I'd add a screenshot or two but then Photobucket, it turns out, is "the man".

I preferred the ones where we were on the runway, I started counting down from 3 and started rolling immediately.

 

Last time we used Ju88s and I tried dropping bombs on the runway as I took off.  It didn't; work - bah.

Thanks for the racing missions Swallow, but they don't open in game. I've followed the usual "missions" file path.

I am back fresh from watching the Redbull Airrace in Budapest. It has inspired me to make a race map based on it. The Master Class start by flying under a bridge to enter the circuit. Finding an object to represent the pylons is a problem. Maybe when we can import objects in the future this will change.

Swallow's missions apart from being genius are multiplayer not single player. Normally you need to delete the .lst file. Then open the mission in the editor and save again to recreate the .lst file. Is this any help.

Sadly I'm on holiday at the moment and won't get back to "the rig" for a couple of weeks. I did even have an SP version for testing. Changing versions is very straightforward if you're willing to pop your mission editing cherry. All you have to do, I think, is replace the "False Field" spawn point with a "Player" aircraft and save the mission as an "SP" mission, rather than a "dogfight" mission. Sorry I can't help for the next couple of weeks!

 

[Edit: Jacko and Tom - the Vb is calling me... my piled up RL issues that had me in a big slow-motion panic have mostly subsided, and that Vb is whispering...]

I converted Swallows missions to SP (single player) missions, but I have not tested them. Unzip the file to your "Missions" folder (which is for SP missions) and give them a try. You'll be flying the Spitfire with the default skin.
