The ME 410 was unpopular because of ME 210 difficulties. Trust is a important factor in war

Well, concerning memoirs of survived Zerstorer pilot, Me210 with long tail and Me410 were respected and liked by crews.

Me210 prroved very well over Afrika in late 1942-early 1943, and Me410 enjoyed air battles untill early 1944.

I think that's what the haiku is for

My plane burning red

Old memories of childhood

The shining blue sea

Not my best haiku. :)

Flying that deathtrap through a defensive screen of zeros and into a hail of antiaircraft fire at stalling speed, just to ensure your crappy torpedo would run...  You'd be better off with an interest in short stories.  ;)

Well! The Japanese may have... literally shot them out of commission...

But at least I have the fact that the plane is such a disappointment that when something actually works it's a pleasant surprise!

I'm actually pretty excited to fly the Devastator myself :)

I know it was obsolete and essentially shot out of existence but it's an interesting aircraft. Be very interesting to fly.

There seems to be an underlying request for a lot of ETO a/c (RAF, USAAF). Hmmm funny that. :P

The TBD actually did OK at Coral Sea.

Everyone focuses on the disaster at Midway, which was more a failure of a lack of fighter cover than the airframe itself.  TBFs (or Swordfish, or Kates) would have done no better there under the same circumstances.

That, and the torpedoes they were using at the time were junk. Between those and the Mark 14s being used by the submarine fleet at the time, the US Navy was using the worst torpedoes in the world, hands down.

There were 6 TBFs on Midway Island that participated in the battle. 5 got shot down, the last came back heavily damaged with a dead gunner. IIRC, it was also the type's first combat operation.
