Ribbon Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Even i have Clod i'm complete noob for Spitfire. Can someone give me short instructions how to fly it in BoX, mostly engine managment (speed, rpm, throttle, engine temp)? How to maintain engine work temperature? Thanks! 1

unreasonable Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 This is the real thing for the Mk II. It is actually very similar. I have a MkV manual but I cannot find an online version. Spit2Manual.pdf 3

Finkeren Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 (edited) I find it fairly easy (not German-easy, but still) RPM: Normal CSP governor, controls RPM directly. Throttle: Normal, but instead of reading a manifold pressure gauge, you look at the boost indicator, which makes throttle control much simpler. NOTE: In normal flight, the boost is locked at +12, to achieve +16 boost for WEP you need to unlock the throttle by pressing the "boost" button (same as for the Shvetzov engines) Keep in mind, that if you set your RPM above 2850, it will still eat away at your time limit on WEP, even if your boost is locked and below +12. For WEP unlock your boost, else you're not getting the benefit. Mixture: Automatic mixture if you leave it at 100%. Use this for combat. Lean as necessary during cruise to save fuel. Supercharger: Only 1 gear, no pilot input needed. Water radiator: 5 positions, controlled the same way as on the Bf 110s. Oil radiator: Automatic, cannot be controlled. NOTE: The oil radiator is not effective when on the ground or at low airspeeds. Park too long with engine running and oil will overheat. Limits: Cruise: RPM below 2650, boost below +7 - no time restraints. Combat: RPM max 2850, boost max +9 - 30 mins. WEP: RPM 3000, boost up to +16 - 5 mins. Rather simple, I think. Finkeren Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 BTW: Han has updated the specs page to include the Spit now.
Herne Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 I don't think I've mapped a boost button, don't recall seeing it in the keybindings, I'll have to have another look tonight. How long can you use WEP before you blow the engine fink ?
Finkeren Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Haven't tested the limits, for now I'm just toying around with it. Blew the engine once due to having left the rpm just slightly above 2850, but I honestly have no idea how long it lasted.
Herne Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 the boost button is it press and hold or a toggle ? if it's a toggle is it worth just engaging it before take off so you don't have to worry about it ? I assume you wont use it unless you use the full range of the throttle ?
Finkeren Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 It's a toggle. I think you might be able to do, what you say. Personally I like using the button to remind myself, when I engage and leave WEP.
