Guest deleted@50488 Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Ok, how do you guys plan to use the Spitfire ? Just that - I will give it a fair try of flight dynamics and systems / engine modelling but then I believe that I will not be able to escape the temptation of some air combat with it :-)
Feathered_IV Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 ... I believe that I will not be able to escape the temptation of some air combat with it :-) If any Spitfire V pilots suddenly find themselves in a position to shoot and kill an Fw-190... Just don't. Not ever. We'd never hear the end of it. 10
Finkeren Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Feathered is refering to the bit of "common knowledge" that when the Fw 190 first arrived on the Channel Front it absolutely mopped the floor with the Spit mk. V. If people's first experiences with the Spit online runs contrary to that, we'd get instant "Spit iz OP"-threads. Personally I don't think the Spit will pose much of a threat to a well-flown 190 at lower altitudes. The 190 is just too fast. If the Spit turns out to climb better than the Yak-1b, it might frustrate some 109 pilots though. 4
Herne Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 "Jump in her 5 times a day and take her to heaven and back" Well not so confident on the back part lol. I am really looking forward to taken her for a spin though. 4
150GCT_Veltro Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 We need to wait for the 2.012 update, FW's FM will be updated aswell.
Lusekofte Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I was kind of not very interested in this plane until I read it should be a underdog. I think I will fly it and I think I will try to be as good as I can be in it. Never had that feeling in this sim before
BlitzPig_EL Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 It likely will be just another low performer for the F4 to toy with. Remember the time frame, by this point the Mk. V was obsolete for all intents and purposes in the West. I'll still enjoy flying it though. A welcome break from flying the VVS birds.
Bullets Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I will fly it like I do the I16, low and out manoeuvre and blues that come down to my level
Finkeren Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I will fly it like I do the I16, low and out manoeuvre and blues that come down to my level That's my thinking as well. Even if it won't ever be able to catch anything faster than an E7, it should be able to frustrate the hell out of any attacker. 1
ShamrockOneFive Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Well I usually start by taking off from an airfield and just flying around getting a feel for the aircraft. Then I'll be taking it into combat to see how it performs and learn how to make the most of this fighter. Looking forward to it!
Semor76 Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 (edited) What will you do with the Spit ? .....put it in my Revi 16A, press the trigger, watch the Spit going down in flames...paint another Kill mark on my FW190. Look for the next glorious Spit jokey Edited June 29, 2017 by Semor76
Thad Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 See if it is as equally screwed up as the non Russian P40 E-1. 1
Guest deleted@50488 Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 See if it is as equally screwed up as the non Russian P40 E-1. But, in the game we have the Russian P-40 E, so, how would we know ?
Wulf Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 It likely will be just another low performer for the F4 to toy with. Remember the time frame, by this point the Mk. V was obsolete for all intents and purposes in the West. I'll still enjoy flying it though. A welcome break from flying the VVS birds. Maybe. However it should be remembered that of the 49 Fighter Command squadrons that engaged the Luftwaffe over Dieppe in August 1942, more than 40 of them were Mk V squadrons. And although the Luftwaffe scored more victories than did Fighter Command, they did so at some considerable cost. A not inconsiderable achievement given the operational constraints under which the RAF was operating. 1
CUJO_1970 Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I hope it gets flown a lot online. I'm getting tired of shooting down Yaks, that's all anyone on allied side seems to fly anymore.
=SqSq=Sulaco Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 First thing I'll do is put her nose up in the vertical at full throttle until she stalls to see if the engine blows like it does in DCS.
Guest deleted@50488 Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Judging from the following, I think you will not have that problem, unless it's a really HOT day and / or you start from a situ with an already very hot engine.... https://youtu.be/uItpksDhAgQ?t=44
71st_AH_Vertigo Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 If she'd modeled anything like her sister, the 1001A in CLOD.... I'm going to immediately have my blissful elation as I leave the runway for the first time degrade to aggravated as hell that I forgot to open the radiator and just blew the engine.. lol V
6./ZG26_Custard Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Drink tea, kick the tires, fire up the old girl up and smoke a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast. 1
Lusekofte Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Drink tea, kick the tires, fire up the old girl up and smoke a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast. Exactly what I did when I bought my first fishing boat . Walked around it and looked at it, a bit scared to manoeuvre out of the harbour. Obviously I did not kick the tires, but looking forward to use it , terrified at the same time to fu** up . Witch I eventually did. It sunk
Monostripezebra Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Not that much different then the P40, only less glamourus.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJj2dWoWOag
Jaws2002 Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 (edited) Ok, how do you guys plan to use the Spitfire ? I'll paint it pink, to match the usual virtual spitfire pilot's skirt. Edited June 29, 2017 by Jaws2002
ShamrockOneFive Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I hope it gets flown a lot online. I'm getting tired of shooting down Yaks, that's all anyone on allied side seems to fly anymore. Don't see too many non-109 fighter pilots either Having the FW190 being a regular part of Kuban battles will be great for variety on both sides. 1
deleted@31403 Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Drink tea, kick the tires, fire up the old girl up and smoke a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast. Sounds like a great idea. Come back and have a wee dram of Scotch.
=WH=PangolinWranglin Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Stunts and get shot down. I hope it'll be like the I16, underestimated. 2
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Is the answer die a noble death? I still intend to fly the $#i7 out of it. 2
