The thread where I give away BoK

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

In the spirit of giving, and because the Summer sale knocked $10 off the price tag, I want to gift a copy of IL2 Battle Of Kuban Premium Edition to a deserving member of this great community. EDIT: Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, we now have 2 BoK Premium keys to give.

The rules:

Yeah, there's gotta be rules, right?

1. You cannot ask for this for yourself. Instead you can nominate another member of this community, who you think deserves it.

2. When nominating someone, you put up their forum name (preferably provide a link to their profile as well) and write a short text (3-5 sentences) explaining, why this community member deserves a free copy of BoK.

3. The nominee should be someone who has contributed to this community in a positive way. Factors I might consider when picking the person to receive it may include (but aren't limited to):

              - Someone who has produced content for free for the rest of the community (skinners, campaign builders, writing helpful guides, creating content for the new career mode etc.)

              - Someone who is very knowledgeable about a relevant topic and have shared that knowledge with the rest of the community in discussions.

              - Someone who consistently helps out newcomers or people with specific problems and do so in a kind and helpful manner.

              - Someone who with his/her friendly demeanor has helped keep discussions civil, on topic and generally helped create a friendly environment.

              - Someone who has contributed to the advancement of the sim by providing great suggestions, new ideas or CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, thereby helping making the sim even better. (I will absolutely consider people, who have been critical or provided evidence for errors, flaws within the sim, this all helps improve the sim)

              - Someone who really loves the sim and has shared that love with the community but is in a financial situation, where he/she can't afford to buy into BoK in the foreseeable future.

4. I will only consider nominations from community members, who have been active for more than a couple months (forget the sock accounts)

5. I will only consider nominees who are active on the forum to some degree.

6. If you and I have had disagreements or heated discussions before, or if I have had such with the person you wish to nominate, don't hold back, I promise I won't let my personal history with a nominee affect my decision.

7. If you think someone has nominated someone who is a worthy nominee, let me know by up-voting that post. I will take this into account, but I can't promise I'll pick the one with the most up-votes.

8. You can only nominate someone by writing a post in this thread, please don't send me any PMs.

9. Deadline for submitting nominees is Sunday the 2nd of July. I will announce my pick shortly thereafter.

Let's hear it for all those great community members, who make this a great place to hang out.

Please read the rules carefully before writing a post.

EDIT: If you find, that you have been nominated by someone in this thread and you for some reason are not interested in receiving a BoK key, you already own BoK or because you want to withdraw your nomination in favor of someone else, just let me know in a PM and I'll strike you off the list.

Pat Wilson.

I is all very clear That guy does not need any introduction on what he has done to all the 777games by making the fabuleus Campaign generator. All for free, always helping when you are facing problems running his Campaign generator.

Making this CG is an enourmous amount of work, he all did for the Rof/Box members.

My English is very bad, I hope somebody can write that down in much better words.

Edit, and not only for the 777, also for the whole flysim community because he was not only active for 777 games, remember the Western front path for Redbaron3D as an perfect sample.

Does Pat Wilson not have BoK?! That's crazy.

Pat if he's playing and would like it... Hands down.

JG4_Karaya also gets a meritorious mention for overall contributions to the flight sim community outside of these forums and subject knowledge.

I just can't spare the funds yet.

Still building my Christmas/Wife B-Day slush fund for the year.

I still plan to give away at least one copy of BoK before the end of the year.

If I can't swing it, then a few aircraft.

Oh...and yeah Pat  :)

I know this guy from several game forums (he's not my friend in any forum or game) and he is always helpfull toward new players, giving good and fair advices while not entering in arguee with anybody.

Seems he is simm oriented guy and i know he will stick in il2 for a long time.

Pat Wilson is a God of this community so i think he is in no need for BoK even he deserve it the most.

I believe that Panzerbar would be a worthy winner of a BOK copy.  Panzerbar has completed lots of skins for the game and he appears to be always willing to assist whenever he can.

I do not believe that Panzerbar obtains any financial rewards for his skins either.

Listen up guys: I've been contacted by another community member who wishes to remain anonymous, but who wants to donate a BoK key to an active community member as well and would like to pick a nominee from this thread.

We will therefore announce not ONE but TWO recipients of a BoK key on Monday or maybe Tuesday.

A big thank you to the generous giver!

I agree, his contributions to the community are undeniable. Not only skins, but also knowledge on the eastern front and Luftwaffe in general.

I don't think the stats page shows BoK aircraft even if you have them.

I've just realised though that anyone with BoK should have one of those bars, forgot to look for that when I nominated above. Doh!

(on a phone now so can't see anyway).

Yeah, I didn't think about the fact, that people who use their smartphones can't tell, if a community member already owns BoK.

Don't worry. I'll obviously weed out any nominees, who already own BoK.

Nice one Finkeren!  As someone who already has a lovely piece of BoM flavoured golden shrapnel lodged under my name thanks to your great kindness, it's awesome to see you spreading the joy even further.  I added an upvote for Pat, and I hope I can gift a copy on soon too.  ;)

That's very generous Finkeren, but I imagine that it might be difficult to find a member of the community that meets the conditions of your rules and also has not already pre bought BOK.

Dev's I need more stuff to buy, how about some premium skins ?

Just to be clear: The conditions are merely suggestions, you can nominate anyone you think is appropriate. Just give me the reason in the post.

I suggest Sokol1 , all though I agree with Pat suggestion. When it comes to helping people with hardware problems and builds Sokol is always there, and that goes for all forums. I do not know if he accept though. But when it come to helping, he is the one standing out

A very nice gesture indeed, from you and Mr Anon. And all the other nice people that gift stuff to this community.  :friends:

Pat (if he doesn't own BoK) seems like a fine choice.

But, I vote Sokol1.

Cuz: Sokol1 is a Super-Happy-Fun-Time-Flight-Simulator-Peripheral-Encyclopedia.

Edit: Alright, I now see LuseKofte already suggested that community member, so for shits n giggles I vote Raaaid.

Cuz: No IL-2 forum would be complete without the (numerous) threads created by Raaaid, which provide many forum regulars with the shits n giggles.  :P

This thread has made me think about some of the outstanding online servers out there which I have enjoyed. One in particular for me stands out and that is TAW

Now the only server admin I know is LG kathon, and as much as I'd like to nominate him, i'm pretty sure that he probably already has BoK. Unlikely anyone would be a server admin if they were not passionate about the game after all.

Anyway to cut a long story short, which is starting to stray from the threads topic. This thread inspired me to make a small donation through the TAW website, because the 92 hours I've spent this campaign in it, are more than I spend in most AAA games, and felt it deserved my thanks. Probably wouldn't have happened without Finkerens generous gesture though.

I think that's a great suggestion herne6210 :)

I chose to limit the nominations to people who are active on the forum, because that makes it easier for me to evaluate their contributions.

Obviously there are many great members of the IL2 community who aren't active on the forum but who contribute in other ways, and I encourage people to find ways to show appreciation for them as well.

Thanks very much for your participation all of you. I am not looking at any further nominees now.

I know who our picks are, but announcements will have to wait, until I get in contact with the winners. If for some reason, I haven't reached them by Wednesday, I will make the announcement anyway in the hope, that they will receive the gift.

A big thank you to all who participated in this thread by giving excellent suggestions (plus a couple tongue-in-cheek) of great community members who deserve a bit of appreciation.

We are now ready to announce the two recipients of the BoK keys:

The first one was the first to be suggested and was resuggested several times in the thread: Pat Wilson.

His tireless work to provide the community with an excellent, malleable campaign generator and to continuesly expand and provide support for PWCG is beyond inspiring. It was a natural first pick.

The second recipient also found a lot of support in the thread, and that is Sokol1. His knowledge and helpful attitude, especially towards newcomers has benefitted a great many community members, and he is a great example of, what this community is and should be.

Now, there is a small caveat: I have been unable to contact Sokol1 and inform him via PM, because for some reason he has blocked me  (I don't know why, but it's not really a problem except in this particular case) I have made a few attempts to contact him via other channels, but with no luck. I have chosen to send him the key without informing him first, but if any of you are friends of Sokol1, could you be so kind as to draw his attention to the fact, that he has received the BoK key?

Congratulations Pat and Sokol1 and thank you for your contributions to this community. And thank you to all who participated. Let's continue to make this a great place to hang out.

:salute:

Thank you Finkeren for a good competition and thanks to all for participating!

It´s allways good to remember that in the end we are all just plane enthusiasts and friendly exchange on topics is just beneficial for each of as we learn new things, even if sometimes debates get a little out of hand!

And congratulations to the winners, a well deserved win!

And thanks to Krisu for kind words nominating me.
