J-j- Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Hi, I'm sorry to ask a question that maybe was alreay written here... What's the date of "our" La-5 series 8 in the Lavochkin timeline? On September 8th, 1942 the Lag-5 was renamed La-5. In september and october there was a test by the NII VVS of a "La-5 series 4". When exactly did the La-5 series 8 arrive at the frontlines of Stalingrad? Thanks for any information!
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 (edited) First test flight March 1942Introduction to service July 1942(Delivered 20th June and first flights early 2nd or 3rd of July) The new LaGG-3 M-82 (also known as the Samolyot 37 (Aircraft 37) or the Type 37) was completed in February 1942 and underwent test flights, with promising results despite problems with engine cooling. Its performance was better than any Soviet fighter then in service. Other problems were also revealed in testing: excessive control forces, oil leaks, and excessive weight, but these could not overshadow the LaGG-3 M-82's excellent performance, and it was ordered into full-scale development as the LaG-5. The first fully operational LaG-5s were delivered on 20 June 1942. Edited June 28, 2017 by =TBAS=Sshadow14
