At instant-gaming.com an IL-2 BOS key is sold. Some commentaries say it's a Russian demo version with only two planes?

Was there even such a thing?

Yes. There was.

 

You had two planes unlocked and you had to grind to unlock ghe rest. It had all the planes that standard version of BoS has.

 

Since unlocks are long gone I don't know how this version would work now.

 

It was for russian market only. I would not recommend to buy it.

 

There is a sale now on with BoS 50% cheaper. Better way to buy it and support the devs.

tbh I kind aget dmeotivated that IL2's server list is usualyl just friggin dead during my daylight house. I want to get BoK for the spifire and stuff but thing is the question is will I play BoK planes enough that it would be worth the money?

BoS' bf109 F-4 and lagg-3-23 could be made free to play like how the three planes of rise of flight are avialable. Rise of flight is just too old for it to get hte marketting effect imo. I wouldn't call it a graphically impressive game despite the nice physics.

Due to the unfriendly nature of the game to alt-tabbing and the lack of a tty/console only client of sorts, it's kidna impossible to seed servers in il2 like I can in other games like tremulous, which has about half the active population of il2 despite being 17 years old by code and not being very visually friendly, having a "box gun on a box map" poor visuals.

(TL;DR: I want population!)

No, full version! You just need to play the campaign to unlock the others! In the end you receive 6 planes for free if you unlock them during the campaign gameplay.

Especially since I do not know how well my laptop will handle this game (i7-4700MQ @2,4 GHz, GT740M 2GB, 16 GB DDR3 RAM). That's very much at the low end of the spectrum now...

My old laptop many years ago had

i5-4200U @2.6GHz

GTX 740M 2GB

4GB Ram.

I could run this game fine on low, and rise of flight on medium on that laptop.

 

However, since the 64bit, DX11 update, i can now run IL2 same as or even better (in other ways) then rise of flight on my current PC on about medium/high. (specs in my signature).

 

So id say you're good for low/medium Graphics.

 

You could always try rise of flight as a benchmark (they use the same game engine, only rise of flight is 32bit, DX9), they have around the same performance.

 

Rise of Flight is Free to Play, you get 3 free aircraft in the demo (Spad13, Alb DVa and N17Rus), and access to multiplayer, gunner positions etc etc...

Im sure its really hard for the devs to control this but those keys are only meant for the Russian market.

 

Just an unpolished idea: They should design a campaign to reach out and offer owners of dubious license keys the option to upgrade (for a limited time) to a legitimate key for a fraction of the price (e.g. $20).

 

Similar to a fiscal amnesty.

 

Then wipe out the licenses for all owners of russian keys that have not been bought in Russia or arent being used in Russia.

 

And do all that without making people angry XD good luck!

Hi Jag,

 

Official devs word about this was not to buy it if you are outside Russia because probably the keys sold comes from credit card fraud since those keys shouldnt be commercialize outside Russia. In the past it was said that key may be revoked and happened already. So my advice is to buy here with the nice summer offer.

I don't agree.  Maybe it would be OK if the restriction was that they couldn't fly in an Online server.  You don't want it to become like RoF where any half-wit can download the game and then get online and troll in the multiplayer servers.  I think it's good that there is no free or demo version of Il2.

Until 12 month ago DCS ran better in my pc than this, now it is opposite. Latest patch have made it a bit more demanding, but some tweaks will sort this out. I got a old i7 2,8 ghz with gtx 680. The smoothness in both games have made me postponed a new rig for a year or two
