Herne Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Had a message recently on the hud saying that I should try side slipping to put out the fire. I'm not sure which direction I should side slip. So if the fire is on the starboard wing should I side slip to port ?
Guest deleted@50488 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I believe the correct procedure should be to "sideslip away from the fire", so as you wrote, if your starboard wing is on fire, you sideslip into your port / left wing...
Finkeren Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 If your plane is on fire, you should slip... ...out of your harness and the hell out of that crate. 6
=WH=PangolinWranglin Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I agree with Finkeren. If there's a fire, you haven't got much of a chance of surviving if you stay strapped in.
216th_Jordan Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 You can outdive a fire if you got enough altitude and are already quite fast, otherwise always bail. Not yet tried sideslipping out a fire though
=EXPEND=CG_Justin Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 With rudder behaving the way it does now, I find sideslipping very difficult. For me it usually ends in a cross-control stall. When there's fire, I bail.
Monostripezebra Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Forget sideslipping.. speed diving is what puts fires out in the BoX world.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Thhkkf9Cf2o 1
CanadaOne Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 When on fire, try your best to share your predicament with he that caused it. Ram the bastard!
Luftschiff Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 As others have written, altitude -> speed can save you. Make like a submarine and dive, dive, dive!
=ARTOA=Bombenleger Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 (edited) The sideslipping is not what puts the fire out but it can still save your live if you fly a single engined plane. When the flames come out of your engine they will burn your pilot but when you dive, while sidelsipping in a dive the flames will go to the side and not hurt your pilot that way you dont die while diving the flames out.If the flames come out of your wing you dont need to sideslip but with the current rudder modelling its pretty hard to sideslip properly. Livai Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Remember it can and not it should save you doing this!
THERION Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Another way to put out the fire is simply to open the canopy and trying to blow out the fire - but beware of your moustache... 2
F/JG300_Gruber Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 (edited) If the fire is on the wing, opening the canopy with an oil spitting engine can help make it sweet and shiny though Edited June 28, 2017 by F/JG300_Gruber
CF-105 Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Another way to put out the fire is simply to open the canopy and trying to blow out the fire - but beware of your moustache... The part about the moustache I read in Jeremy Clarkson's voice, and now I can't stop reading the entire thing in his voice, it's great!
