HagarTheHorrible Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Tarmac roads and Tanks don't mix. You are essentially driving on rubber slicks. If the roads are overly wet, or snowy/icy then driving a Tank can be really dicey. I was on an exercise, in the Eighties, that was suspended after a Tank bridgelayer joined a German couple in their kitchen for breakfast because of poor weather conditions (sleet). It wasn't unusual to see pictures, in the local German papers, of Tanks or APC's that had gone walk about. One that I particullarly remember is of a 432 APC half buried into the wall of a Sparkasse bank with two stunned Squaddies standing next to it, grinning sheepishly for the camera. It's probably as well that the other Tanks didn't try to stop or there might have been even more Tanks wrapped around lampposts. I can imagine there would have been great hilarity and big grins on the faces of all the other Tankies as they charged past. As to warning everyone on the radio, when a Tank is going that fast it makes a hell of a racquet and trying to hear, much less understand, what is being said is bloomin dificult, even in these wonderous modern times. To see if they are ok??i wanna hope so if they not they need a discharge ..it was a tank that clipped a tree at maybe 40mph if the crew cant stand that kick them out :D They're probably conscripts, so would be happy to comply. Being in 70 tonnes of metal, moving at 50 MPH, or more, that has suddenly decided to do it's own thing can be a decidedly sobering experience.
bjsracer Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 (edited) Saw this again on the aussie news today, they reported it was written off.... OK sure thing, I guess they make AP lamp posts in Russia :D Edited June 26, 2017 by bjsracer
